Can anyone tell me what the beach is like to the hotel. My hubby is a real beach person and is hoping to spend most of the time on the beach
Many thanks, Teresa

The beach is fine, don,t worry, its made up of fine coral and is golden, plenty of sun shades and sun loungers around and the beach bar is a very short walk!!

Not much good for sandcastles though, and you can always walk along the private jetty which has now been extended right out to the edge of the coral reef, the fish there are amazing!

Thanks Phil, It sounds perfect. I get the impression you cant just walk into the sea from the beach ?? I s this right. We are booked to go for the first time next April

sorry teresa, it must be confusing to read I know, but yes you can walk straight into the sea but its only ankle deep due to the coral reef, is gradually gets deeper but not until you are well out, its just quicker to walk along the jetty, the beach front is in fact miles and miles long!

If you read the reviews on the Royal Abatros Moderna I,m sure there are loads of photos attached which explains all, I will at sometime attach mine!!

regards,

Phil.

hi tux

glad you had a good holiday.

i wondered if you could help me out regarding a few things?! :think we have sea rooms booked and was unsure if the building work will affect us in any way?

and also i have seen that you booked the transfer wth the hotel, which ive emailed them about already but they were not clear on what they would send for four of us with lots of luggage!! :duh do you know if its a minibus or a taxi and if its the latter will our luggage all fit in?

and finally!! is there anything we should know about the hotel good or bad??

thanks

Hi, have booked to stay at the Calimera this October, have had a price from Med Hotels for £8.90 each way from airport, this is for 2 people, how much do the hotel charge for a transfer?, thanks.

I booked a taxi for 2 adults and 2 kids with romy at the hotel, cost us £12 to get to the hotel and £14 to get back again, but the return trip was booked with the hotel taxi firm, (not sure why it cost more on the homeward journey but could,nt be bothered to haggle as we were in get us home mode). We had 3 large cases and hand luggage which the driver managed to accommodate in the boot, def would,nt have got 4 cases in though, so might pay to book a mini bus if you have 4 or more cases!

When we came out of arrivals our driver was clearly visible with a big sign with our names on, dead easy! we were in the hotel in 20 mins which is the advantage over the coach transfers.

There are a number of rooms which can lay claim to having a sea view, currently the building work is to the left hand side of the active pool, where they are building a third floor, there will be plenty of sea view rooms not affected by the building works (we had one) but just have a word with reception if your not happy and they will move you.

As for the good and bad, it all depends on what your expectations are, as for myself and my family it ticks all the boxes for a fabulous holiday, destination, climate, transfer time, accommodation, great pools, food, beer, decor, staff service, entertainment, the snorkling it has the lot for us, but other people will tell you differently I,m sure!

They call Eygpt the marmite country cos you either love it or hate it !! and talking of marmite, if you eat it take a jar, its a great last resort if you don,t like whats on offer and drink plenty of water 2ltrs a day to keep hydrated!

Just to say again, we had a great time, already looking to book for next summer (our 4th time back, and we have some unfinished business with the russkies in the water volleyball to sort, what a team though!!!)

Here,s hoping Steve and his family got back safe as well!!

thanks for that tux its a great help!!! ;)

think i will book the transfers with the hotel tonight.

just one last thing can we change sterling in the hotel at all and is it a good rate if so? or is it better to try and get to a bank!!

cant wait to go, not long now!!!!

There is a bank at the hotel where you can change money or travellers cheques, also, there is an atm machine for cash, the rates are pretty good wherever, but you can spend just about anything anyway, sterling, euros, dollars, egyptian, they,re not fussy!!

best wishes for a fab holiday!!

Hi Tux

I am going back for my third year in november. Is the beach mini bus still taking you down to the area in front of the tower hotel or is that hotel now finished?? is 'Gary' still at the pool bar.

Counting down the days :cheers

Na, unfortunately the bus has stopped, so it,s a 10 minute walk now and then you have to walk down to the sea front as they have errected a fence around the perimeter of the hotel, but no hassle really and well worth the walk, the fish are fantastic!! They still hav,nt finished the Louis Tirran hotel and prob won,t untill well into next year!

Fraid we did,nt see Gary at the pool bar this time, mainly just Saied and Mohammed the bar manager, they have got a newbie just started called Hassem, really young lad, spitting image of Ronaldo from Man Utd who the kids loved!! got himself sent to the "Dogs" bar though and the kitchens at night time for upsetting some Russian bloke because he did,nt smile nice enough at him!!

Nearly started world war 3 right there and then as the brits felt he was really hard done by! hopefully someone can tell me he,s still around and back at the pool bar as Mohammed had said that as soon as the russian had left "Ronnie" would be allowed to return to the pool bar. We certainly had a physical encounter in the water volleyball the day after, guess who was on the opposite side!!!!

im off there on 11 sept ill check it out ,is there a real problem with russians at this hotel as its a bit worrying :glynis jane

Hey Jane,

let me assure you that at no time did we have any altercations with the russians, it was more that we got annoyed at how petty they can be with the staff and have no appreciation for how hard and long they work. Like I said, one guy took humbridge about the way he was looked at and went straight to reception to complain about it.

The hotel management take customer concerns very seriously and act before asking questions, just seems the staff get a bum deal and don,t deserve it, different cultures though and you have to respect it.

But having said that, don,t let me put you off or worry you about the ruskkies, we had a good laugh about it after with the staff and rest assured the staff always have the last laugh (they save the yellow ice cubes for the ruskkies!!)
