My daughter and her boyfriend are off to Stalis next week. What was the weather like and how busy was it? Thanks
weather was boiling - 39 degrees by day and 29 by night. Not a drop of rain in sight. Stalis was thriving but not exceptionally busy for August. I'm sure she'll have a whale of a time. Do you know where she's staying?
Sounds just great, better than all this rain we are experiencing.
She is staying at the Panorama Hotel, do you know it?
Also how were the cost of meals, drinks etc and can you recommend any good restaurants.
Thanks
We ate in restaurants every evening and I'd say the average cost (including a couple of drinks) was 65 - 70 euros. They will be able to eat a lot cheaper as there are quite a few fast food style cafes there (selling british and Greek fast food). Plenty of choice for all budgets.
It's hard to recommend any restaurants because we didn't have a bad meal in one. If they like Chinease, there's one in Malia (not too far from Stalis) with an "eat all you want" buffet for 10.90 euros. We went there twice as it was excellent value for money. Malia Old Town is also worth a visit for a nice meal with lovely surroundings.
Babs - I was with Shirley H on this holiday, and would recommend Angelos, Odysseas, Zorbas and the Greek Tavern in Stalis. We had a superb meal in San Georgios in malia Old Town. As a guide a pint of local lager was around 2.50 euros, a metaxa & lemonade 4.50 (there was at least 3 in the glass) and a main course around 7 euros.
Thanks Helen & Shirley
my wife and i are off to Stalis on the 30th of september, my wife booked the holiday, i had no idea, i have now looked and found its near Malia, a place i might be a bit nervous of, my wife and i are in out early 40`s, and dont fancy dodging drunken kids all night/day, please tell me Stalis is nothing like malia. we have stayed on kos island in kefalos nice place.
the area looks stunning i must say.
thanks all
Gray
Please be assured Stalis is not at all like Malia. We came back last Sunday, and although there is plenty to do, it is a resort for families and couples. We are in our early 50's and had a fantastic time. Where are you staying?
thanks for the fast reply, thats a reliefe, thanks for reasuring me, we are staying at Villa Alexandra looks nice, out of interest, how far is malia from stalis.
Gray
From the farthest end of Stalis until the start of Malia is around 10 mins in a taxi (8 euros). It takes just short of an hour, to walk in the heat. We were more or else in the middle of the two resorts. We went into Malia on a few occasions, twice to restaurants in Old Malia - superb, and a couple of times just to a couple of bars at the edge early on in the evening.
just to second what Helen Said. Although we did go in to Malia on a couple of occasions Stalis is a much better resort (unless you're young, free and single lol). There's plenty to do there and most of the bars/restaurants/shops are all on the main beach road. I would definitely recommend going in to Old Malia at least once for a meal though. Completely different to the Malia where all the youngsters go. You can reach it quite cheaply by Taxi. Relax and enjoy!!
ive been having a look on google earth trying to find out where our hotel is situated, unfortunatly its not there, though lots of others are, any chance someone can pinpoint it on google earth for me, something like "its inbetween hotel "BLABLA" and hotel "blabla" near the wotsit you can see on google earth. lolol hope that makes sense.
We are staying at Villa Alexandra.
Yamas
Hi, stayed at Villa Alexandra many years ago. Have been looking at Google Earth to see if I can find it for you, I'm pretty certain I've found it. Try keying in these co ordinates into the search box 35 17'20.77 N 25 26'08.33 E .
sorry for the delay, rushed of my feet at work as usual, hi nicJW, yes thats the place, i did manage to find it before but wasnt able to work out how to share it on here, silly me.
Is it a nice place, wich direction is the subway to cross the road, nearly all the reviews ive read have been very good, with just a few grumpy ones.
cant wait now 22 days to go lolol
PS
does anyone know if "blueheather" still comes on here, i met her and her husband in kefalos a couple of years ago, i think i was going under the username "Looney" then
all the best
Gray
I'm not sure if the subway was even there when I went, if it was I didn't use it! There wasn't any quad bikes in those days, just mopeds to look out for. All I remember about the place was that the rooms were fairly basic, as always in Greece, but they were clean and quiet. I really liked Stalis and had a lovely holiday there, I'm sure you'll have a great time.
Gray-Noone -If you click on the search bar at the top and copy blueheather's name into the author bar and enter you wil find out when she or he last logged on,or you could pm her.
Im a good friend of Blueheather and talk to her regularly.
I will let her know you are asking for her!!!
xxx
