We are looking to take our 8 year son to Fuerteventura. He is disabled and uses a manual wheelchair. Has anyone got suggestions for the most 'disabled friendly' resort - ie fairly level everywhere, and ideally with a reasonably accessible beach.
Also, any recommendations on hotels... ?
Thanks...
Dunno if this is too late for you but we just got back from Caleste de Fuste. We stayed at Club El Barcello in the bungalows. You'd need to request specific accom as there's various types of accom including some with steep narrow stairs which you wouldn't want. We got 1009 which was close to the village but across the road from the main complex and the beach. This was best if you're going room only as it's nearest the restaurants, bars, shops etc. If you are going halfboard or all-incl it'd be best to get accom down the other end (4000's) as the complex is huge and it'd be a hassle getting to breakfast and dinner from the village end.
The bungalows were spacious and clean with no steps and good-sized patios with comfortable sunbeds.
The beach isn't wheelchair accessible but there are lots of pools and public areas within the complex itself. You also have access to the Barcello Hotel adjoining it. One big mistake to avoid though is to get out of the taxi at the hotel thinking its the reception for the whole complex as the actual reception is a good 15 mins walk further on (30 if you're on crutches and are loaded with luggage as we found out, oops).
Caleste de Fuste itself is a bit dull though. Some good restaurants but not much shopping or nightlife. The paths are dipped at zebra crossings and there are a lot of them , at every corner and junction etc and there are ramps elsewhere. The Elba Hotel looked nice too, with ramps etc but can't comment on the rooms....no beach access though.
Aish
