Loads of people were moaning about tipping though and that was with a ship with great service across the board. I heard excuses like ' I only wish I could afford it' (that passenger went on loads of excursions) 'It's not fair to the other staff' and 'It should be included inthe price' (that person got a cheap deal and told everyone daily!)

We have come across these extremely mean people too on our cruises, not a nice experience to hear people using any excuse under the sun not to pay up.

Thomsons specify that tips are included in their cruise prices which is great.

You are correct they do, and so do Island cruises which is fine. Don't think anyone is criticising for these lines. Keswick was on a Fred Olsen cruise, and there are many other lines where people do know and understand the tipping policy, despite their claims to the contrary. They just let themselves down when the mean streak comes to the fore!

Well said. I always give £150 to each of the waiters and £200 to the cabin steward. These people are from poor countries and need the money. Stop messing around and get your hand in your pocket ;)

Nice one legless...we have been missing your input for a couple of months. :rofl

Gulp - the 20 Euros I left must have looked a bit mean then!

Dangerman.
Bit over the top with your tips. You must have plenty of dosh to be able to throw it around.
The girls and boys deserve tips but I would say around £20 pounds per person would be sufficient. And given the number of cabins and tables they service thats a nice little earner for a weeks cruise. :tongue

Gratuities are a very personal thing and people have to give what is right for them. Of course over and above what the recommended gratuity is.
If I have excellent service I am always happy to give a bit more. The genuine delight when you do is always an uplifting experience for me.

Do we know that it is around the World? If so for how many nights as it may be just a sector.

When we were in Crete a fortnight ago, we started off by tipping everytime we popped in for a drink. We soon decided that the drinks were expensive enough as it was, so only tipped if we'd been in the same place for a while. For the evening meal we rounded up the bill to the nearest ten Euros. We bought the bar people at the apartments a few drinks over the fortnight, and gave them 5 Euros each. We gave the maids the same. We gave the taxi drivers 2 Euros a trip.

That amount of tips is almost as much pocket money as I take for a week! You're very fortunate in that you're able to give that much money away.

The reason I am called Legless is because I am disabled in a wheelchair as my legs don't work. If that happens to you it makes a person think different about life. It's not the drink! :omg

hi...legless.....i understand you ref the wheelchair .....but it doesnt make the rest of us rich folk.
to get a decent holiday on a cruise some of us need to make the money count as best we can,.
unless you think the poorer members on here should not rise above their station in life .and that they should go on caravan holidays out of season.....
its no wonder the cruise companies make such vast profits when there are people willing to pay for their cruise and then the crews wages on top.....
disgusted from scarborough.......

Hi Johndoe

Perhaps you are right and we should all stop giving them anything and then the cruise companies would have to pay a proper wage to their lower employees :que
