Costs £40 for a single rider or £50 for two. 2 hours slots running most of the day - last one 1800-2000 (this in my opinion is too late as it is dark and although it is described as a sunset ride you are in the dark on a main road - which is not good). There is a 'guide' who leads the way but there is no one at the back picking up the pieces or checking for stragglers. The bloke who was leading on Thu of last week had his earphones in & music blaring and could not hear when people were trying to get his attention.
We were informed by some Longwood guests that Longwoods are actively not promoting the quad bikes in any way shape or form - and in fact are pointing out at their welcome meetings that they do not recommend the Quad Bike Safari - In my opinion that says all there is to say!! - In hindsight I wish we had been a Longwood client and had picked up on this.
Despite the fact that the Head of Animation took the booking and made the arrangements - apparantly the quad biking is nothing to do with the hotel ....... - So is the Head of Animation on some sort of commission? - I do not know (I doubt he should be .....!!) - What I do know is that our feedback fell on deaf ears. Also the minute something went wrong a lot of sloping shoulders took place.
The Quad biking people do not enforce the use of helmets. It should be no helmet no ride. They do not check ages of riders. In Cape Verde for the dune buggies it is a requirement to show a valid driving licence. At the Coral Hilton you are observed doing a lap of the car park then you are let loose. What they do not tell you is that it is not all off-road and there is quite a bit of driving on the main road.
6 bikes were booked for last Thur, 6 bikes turned up - only four helmets ....!! They took the £40 pp of all and then let them have a lap of the car park - then the 'guide' sat of the back of one of the riders - Had we known this was going to happen we would have queried paying the £40 for that rider.
On the way back an accident took place and a young lady in our party broke her wrist (missing a lamp post by inches - it was very fortunate that she only broke her wrist!!).
We are not trying to blame anyone for the accident - as it was exactly that - an accident. However we feel there are safety aspects that need to be urgently addressed.
I would not recommend the quad biking exerience at the Coral Hilton to anyone until such times as some drastic changes are made to how it is operated.
I doubt very much if your holiday insurance would cover this activity bearing in mind the distinct lack of safety measures in place.
Hope this helps anyone thinking of booking it.
