Overall lovely location, would be nice to have somewhere like a path along the front to walk near the hotel. It can feel cut off. We found the only walks were arond the new villas or up round the bars /shops down to Coral bay. There is no direct path along the lovely bay of the hotel and not accessible on the beach. The beach at the bottom of the hotel has a small pontoon which after 6 feet of cobbles is sandy and nice to swim in. Regular buses run to Paphos market and harbour. Coral bay good 10 min walk sandy and crystal clear. Beautiful backdrop of the mountains.
Pool area fantastic, clean, tended gardens no litter. Steep slope to the annex. Lots of shade if you need to cool down and ample sunspots. Plenty of sunbeds and sunshades; towels were avaliable to hire 30E returnable and change as required which we liked. Pool bar busy poor barman didn't stop some people waiting. Ice cream often melted in afternoon. Indoor pool didn't look inviting in its dull surroundings.
We liked the idea of breakfast and lunch on the covered veranda and then less casual in the evening in the nicely laid out dining room. Whilst we didn't have a problem with smart dress and long trousers, jeans and very casual dress looked out of place no effort made!!
Food on the whole good, got repetative over two weeks, we did eat out some lunches and evening meals. I had a win at bingo which paid for a great meal at the Elephant main bar street. Traditional dancing and music played. Recommended!!! Pudding were poor choice generally, some good, but lots of jelly and soft ?pastries and GOO, fresh fruit always available. Fresh fruit juices were like squash very watery.
Good salad bars and choices for main. Cooked breakfast not bad, plenty of cereal, continental choice. Waiting at table some days very slow, ??shortage of staff, same staff worked breakfast until late evening, with apparently very few days off. Usually polite, cheerful and helpful. Bar staff/patio staff in evening sparce and rushed. Reception staff helpful. We felt certain times of the day required more staff or fresh staff to boost numbers and eficiency.
No cockroaches seen, some ants on upper patio were a drink had been spilt. Several stray resident cats around, but no trouble if you didn't feed them!
Rooms spacious, clean sheets towels most days, early maid service. lovely view over pool and bay. Generally decor shabby/tired but clean and comfortable. Aircon good!!
Entertainment. The girls worked very hard. the two dancers were good especially liked their irish jig. The same four girls oversaw, the daily bowls, skittles, darts, volley ball, bingo and quizzes etc. The two singers were resonable, one better than the other though! The regular quiz and bingo were done every evening, we quite enjoyed the quiz on the occasions we did it, and some good money prizes on the one game of bingo played nightly. We had a nice win one of those evenings too!! There was a good number of residents who semed to enjoy them. The three nights the girls did shows for an hour which was gently entertaining. The Casino person who came in every week had very poor take up, the line dancing although a good cause were staid and the greek dancers had no intraction with the audiance. The whole entertainment needs a boost, it quickly became monotomous.
Overall we had a good enjoyable holiday. The flights in and out will be another story though!! I never return to a previous holiday place as there is so much more to do, will return in a few years to Cyprus in another destination. Loved Cyprus and its weather. We had a car mid holiday and notched up 800km exploring. If I returned I would like to see some upgrade and tidy up, (some painting was been done during our holiday) resort and rethink of evening entertainment offered, extra staff for effciancy, and more variety food wise and less goo.
