Hi Fiona, Geri and other HT members
Been back over a week now and just about cleared my desk at work anyway we had yet another lovely holiday, we had some friends with us this year and they said its certainly the 2nd best holiday/country they have ever been to (Goa being the 1st I believe) Alum Kul Kul was a very nice hotel larger rooms than Legian Beach Hotel, the only draw back - if any - was that the rooms are along a corridor so you could hear people walking past although it hasnt put us off we would stay there again in a minute.
The trip to Ubud was very interesting, Tegal Sari is a lovely hotel, we werent too impressed with breakfast but the views across the paddy fields are incredible, alot of the fields had been harvested and we really enjoyed seeing the ducks eating all the dropped grains of rice- priceless
Ubud is a strange place..........daytime it was bustling with the coach trip etc visiting the monkey forest and market but come night time its like a ghost town, we tried both night to eat at the Indian, 1st night it was all shut up by 10pm so second night we when for 9.30 only to be turned away say the were closed
All in all we had a fabulous time and will definetley be back but next year its Langkawi..........if we can get a good flight
Regards
Jules
nice to hear you had a good holiday. Ubud- you really do have to eat early on. If you are at a temple performance you just have to go right afterwards. However, we did find restaurants open until 11pm.
Glad you had a great holiday and you posted now as we are off tomorrow (our $ plummeting against the greenback and suddenly our hotel which is booked in Baht at this stage is going to cost $300 more )
I guess after Legian Ubud was very different. Tegal Sari is well known for it's ordinary breakfast, apart from that I hope you enjoyed your stay there. We stayed at a place in Ubud years ago and breaky consisted of a poached egg on a cracked saucer, coffee given with a tin of sweet and condensed milk...complete with jagged half open lid, a far cry from the Holiday Inn Phuket.
Now if you think Ubud is quiet... Langkawi is too. It's been a while since we were there but this is one of the few places my husband doesn't want to return to... I'd love to go again. One thing they do there is say all restaurant's tables are all in use, they will ask other diners if they are happy to share the table. This practice doesn't bother me as I love talking to people and it's a nice way of meeting new people.
Well, I'm off to the hairdressers for my 'sheep dip' now then I'm going to pack
Cheers Geri
