....and only a few sleeps to go!!!
Hi everyone,
I've never been in this forum before because we've never been to Fuerteventura and we've also never travelled with a 6 month old baby before. (My eldest was 3 before I went abroad with her).
Firstly, we are hiring a villa and we've booked flights with Thomas Cook so no transfers included. I would have been happy to book a taxi but I've since found out that they don't use car seats!! is that true? I'm not sure I feel happy about travelling in a taxi abroad with my 6 month old daughter on my lap! We can't hire a car as I can't find my paper licence anywhere and OH doesn't drive.
I've tried looking into booking a private transfer but they're really expensive and even they don't include a car seat.
Any ideas? Surely this must have come up for other people? Not everyone goes on a package to Fuerteventura do they? How do other DIY bookers get to their destination with a baby?
Also, this is more of a general travel question as apposed to a specific Fuerteventura question, I need to take approx 3 bottles with me to cover the travel time - do they still ask you to drink from the bottles at Gatwick? It will just be water with the baby milk seperate until I'm ready to make it up. Are they ok with this now or do they still get a bit funny about it?
Does anyone know if they sell baby food on planes or in the airport (Boots?) or will I need to take some with me?
That's just the start of my questions! Didn't realise travelling with a baby would be so much hassle
roll on Wed 29th
The best tip I would give is one that you already use, keep formula and water seperate until needed, most babies will take milk at room temperature.Feel free to ask more questions if you want,T.x
Wiz my first question is a very resort specific question - Fuerteventura taxis do not appear to be bookable in advance and they do not use baby car seats! I'm not sure how else I'm supposed to ask a question about a transfer from Fuerteventura airport to our resort anywhere other than in the Fuerteventura forum!
Hope somebody can answer your question, the first time we took Alex abroad we were on a transfer coach and so didn't have a car seat, just used a pushchair in resort or local buses or boats so never had your problem, have you tried ringing the airline to see if you can take your carseat with you?I do know that some car hire businesses have seats to hire, could you hire a car for a day each end of your holiday,or arrange coach transfer with your tour operator.Good luck,Tina.
We have booked the holiday ourselves so there isn't a travel company to ask. Also, the airline will accept a car seat if we booked a seat for the baby but we haven't she's just travelling as an infant. If you're not taking a pram they'll accept one then but not as well as a pram.
I originally looked into hiring a car but we would need an SUV as there is going to be 7 of us altogether and it was very expensive (we wouldn't need it for the main part of the holiday as we are quite local to all the restaurants and beach etc). Also, I can't find my paper licence anywhere so I think this option is out anyway.
I've contacted the villa owner to see if she knows of anyone that can help with the transfer.
Thanks again for your reply.
Mel
I am sure that the villa owner can help you. We have a property in Fuerteventura and our property manager would be able to help with any requests like this. We can arrange private transfers so your villa owner can probably do the same too.
Whereabouts in Fuerteventura are you staying?
We're going to Caleta to a large property on the golf course.
That is where our property is also. Did you get anywhere with the villa owner. Caleta is only around 15 minutes away from the airport!
