The safety deposit boxes are in the rooms and these and the room is totally safe, didn't hear of any break-ins at all when we stayed here in february, it is cheaper to pay for the fridge when you get to reception than with Thomas Cook as all the rooms have a fridge in them anyway - we paid for ours at the hotel. As for a/c, we had this in our room as we booked an upgraded room, what type of room have you booked? The normal rooms have a ceiling fan which will be sufficient - we had ceiling fan too and only used the a/c 3 times. Also, when you get to reception buy a 12 bottle case of water which will be delivered to your room within 15 minutes as its so nice to have chilled water on hand all the time, when you run out order more.
This hotel has a night security guard and he is very vigilant and stops anyone going in if he knows they are not staying there. When are you going and have you been to Goa before? :)

Hi silver angel. Thanks for your reply. We have not booked yet, looking for feb 2010. On the thomas cook website there are only two price ranges the extra supplement is £56 per person, we are presuming this is for a superior room, but are not sure as it does not state if it includes air con. Wether you have to go through to the booking stage and it then shows, not quite sure. Would not book unless we were sure of getting upgrade. Thanks denham.

hello denham

glad to be of help to you

we really enjoyed our stay at Sunset Beach and wanted to book it again for january 09 but it was actually fully booked for our dates so we booked Silver Sands instead, just hope this is as lovely. (hope First Choice don't change it as there seems to be problems with the room allocation there now - we booked a superior room :duh

Why not buy just one bottle, then when you're out, pop into one of the shops and get a big 5 litre bottle.
Just keep topping up the one litre bottle and keep it in your fridge. Must be a lot cheaper than buying from the hotel.

p.s. You get a deposit back with the big bottles.:tup

Hi silverangel, we stayed at silversands in the new superior rooms two years ago this coming january, they are lovely rooms. We are staying at phoenix park in february. Been in thomas cook today, it looks like the air con rooms with a view are the upgraded rooms. Fridges are £3 a day, did you pay less than that, and are you charged for the use of the safety deposit boxes. Thanks denham.

I have stayed at the sunset beach and i must say i have only ever seen T/Cook on their boards(info)...

hello denham

cost of the fridge was 1.50 GBP per day (can't remember it in rupees), which is half Thomas Cook's price. yes, you pay for the safety deposit boxes at reception, these are in your room and they are well worth it.
Sunset Beach has very few rooms with a view (including a/c in the price) and these are the upgraded rooms. we had one of these and it was very very spacious and comfy, it was on the ground floor and the pool was right outside our room, it was fantastic. Just a word of warning about the pool, this is cold all day as it doesn't get any sun because of it being shaded by the trees.
we would definitely stay there again but it does get booked up very quickly as well. the upgraded rooms also have a television in them although we did not use it.

hello bushbaby
this hotel is exclusive to Thomas Cook brochures

hello denham

just to clarify - I need a ground floor room as I can't climb stairs very well due to my health and there is no lift, think that there are only 4 upgraded rooms on ground floor too. totally agree with sleeps-r-us, these rooms are lovely.
please keep me posted if you do book this hotel, you won't regret it. :) :cheers

Thanks for your input everyone. When making a booking can you request the upgraded rooms above the bar, or does anyone know the room numbers.Think we will definately be booking, we hope for 3 weeks if hubby can get time off work.Been in phoenix park 3 times, silver sands once, and magnum resort once. Previous to that we always stayed south at varca. Any more tips welcome thanks denham :cheers

We have stayed at the Sunset Beach 5 times in the last 8 years and have had a/c in every room we have stayed in, the last time we stayed there in 2005 we were in one of the new rooms which had just been added, we didn't ask for an upgrade we were just allocated a new room. We have always had to book the a/c through Thomas Cook, but hired the fridge and the safety deposit box at recepetion when we got there. It's a lovely hotel and the staff are really good. Thomas Cook are the only tour operator which feature the Sunset although it may feature in some other brochures since the merger, but it did used to be exclusive to them.

Denham just found my note book on the sunset beach and the rooms above the bar were 6-10 and the other one we stayed in on the ground floor right next to the rest/breakfast area was 106.

Sleep r us, thanks for your help. We will try and book one of these rooms if we can. Just waiting for hubby to confirm he can have the dates off work and we will book. Will be nice to be closer to beach, have priced this hotel before and it has always been cheaper to go to pheonix park. As we use siorra paradise beach shack we walk past the sunset on our way to siorra. A group of 6 we spoke to on the beach last november spoke highly of the sunset. Again thanks denham :tup
