Oh Mermaid does excellent steaks . Always used to have to book in advance cause its always busy. Owner is Barney < well thats his English name > he used to work at Taj hotel and his hygiene standards are really high .
We tend to get left out "this end"! Also need i mention All Spice is as good as ever.

Also in the same vicinity is Alleys. This is on the road behind the Calangute main Beach steps road. Near Falcon Guest House, Popeyes and where the buses turn round.

Proper mash potatoes and home made pies. Excellent Tandoori and usual Indian , Chinese fare.

i think bob is asking what town you are speaking about ie candolim, calangute etc etc ,
and also there are two newtons the original one in calangute oposite babuttes and the new one in candolim
Mango tree in Vagator is cheap as chips, the food is excellent and the staff very pleasant 5 of us ate there one night and it came to less than a tenner, I recommend the chicken shaslik, it is the best I have ever had
There is nothing to top Brittos at Baga for a good but inexpensive meal. Souza Lobos in Calangute is great too.
I disagree about Brito's.We were in there a few weeks ago and i thought the food was at best average.
I thought Brittos was awful, it was full of flies and I mean and the food was greasy. I had read so many good reports and yet I didn't get it I thought Oceanic and St Anthonys were so much better
Souza Lobo's I didnt like at all, food not great and place dirty I thought, will never return there!!!
went to souza lobos once.couldnt get a table on the beach so ate inside.it was like a canteen and was the worst vindaloo we have had and the kingfisher was warm.maybe we just were unlucky that night.
Souza Lobo's I didnt like at all, food not great and place dirty I thought, will never return there!!!
I agree - and yet it gets a good rating in every new edition of "Lonely Planet." They obviously pay to have it listed.
I even wrote to "Lonely Planet" asking them to reconsider it's listing.
Souza Lobo's I didnt like at all, food not great and place dirty I thought, will never return there!!!
I have to agree! Can't believe this place always gets a mention in the Rough Guide. My vegetarian meal contained meat
