We have some 30,000 Frequent Flyer miles with Continental, and approximately 10,000 with Virgin. Both airlines websites say they are "frequent flyer partners", so we assumed that these miles were interchangeable between the airlines. However when we asked Virgin about how we use Continental miles on their flights, they said "ask Continental" and when we asked Continental, after a long, rambling, "isn't our frequent flier programme brilliant?" reply the last line of their e-mail said "continental miles are not transferrable".
Are they? Are they not? Anybody transferred airmiles between airlines successfully? How on earth do you do it?
I think you can earn virgin miles on a continental flight and vice versa but not sure about transferring miles. I have exchanged hotel points for BA miles before but never one transferred from airline to airline
There is no airline programme I know which permits a transfer of miles to or from another airline, partner or not. With some airlines you can use one way awards, which may allow you to fly out using miles from one airline and return using miles from another.
