We went to Marmaris last year and are returning this year september.
There are beautiful views on the way,and there is a steep hill on entering Marmaris, but the drivers are very carefull and take the bends very slow,i did not feel in any danger at all,the roads are well kept and many are new.
I hope this helps ,have a great time...cheryl...
The road to Marmaris has been improved a great deal in recent years and nothing to be afraid of. Without a break it can be done in about an hour or a little more but as said before some drivers will stop for a break.
If you are only going to Marmaris though you will be fine, don't worry and if you fancy visiting Turunc for the day you can go by water taxi, far nicer and more relaxing.
Thanks for the replies. Really looking forward to our holiday. Jacqui
we stay in akyaka most of the time and thats 20 miles before marmaris but just off the marmaris road, we go in private taxi so no stops and the quickest would be about 50 mins, so i would say marmaris without any stops and going a reasonable pace without busy traffic would be 1.15 -1.30, the road to akyaka is 1 long straight flat road, the only hill is about 1 mile just before marmaris and thats not too bad, so dont worry.
I agree the water taxi to Turunc from Marmaris is lovely, but the drive over the mountain also has its benefits. The views are absolutely spectacular, we always love it when we get to the point where we have our first view over Turunc bay, it really is something else!
last year when we went by water taxi to turunc the sea was so rough we all got off feeling sick so was glad to go back over the hilly road despite having paid for a return water taxi lol , it really was bad im surprised they actually didnt cancel it lol, but the mountain roads around there didnt bother me, just come back from madeira and thats another story !!! makes these look tame
We went there last year but actually hired a car and it took us exactly an hour taking it steady , the road is very straight and there is no problems with the hill into marmaries , however i did here of people who took up to 3 hrs getting there via transfers as a fair few of the drivers take breaks on there way,
the idea is for a dual carriageway to be completed from marmaris to Dalaman. This well under way , about 70% finished, and work is continuing. It has got a lot safer than when i first came, some parts were scary!
When we went last year, the transfer was 1 hour 45 mins and we stopped off along the way at a little cafe/shop place where u can use the toilets etc. The roads arent that scary it is on the hills but the roads are pretty new so its a pretty smooth journey x
