hi everyone, me and my partner are thinking of booking a james villa holiday for october, but dont really know what to look for, we havea seen a few propertties in Chania that we would like. we will be hiring a car but wondered how close most things are? and also, what there is to do in Chania itself. we dont mind travelling to find interesting things to do.
any advice on any aspect of the trip would be fantastic. I am a dolphin lover and have heard there are dolphins in the seas around crete, it would be great to see, maybe there are boat trips i could take?
thank you in advance
Angela
Are the villas you have seen in Chania itself or just nearby? Though we loved Chania and would love to stay there for a few days, I would not choose to be based there for a week, if planning to tour round. The traffic in and out of town can be very busy at times and the one-way system a pain to negotiate. Better (in my opinion) to be based nearby and visit a few times.
Here are some pictures from our trip to give you an idea of what can be visited in the area.

Though I believe there are dolphins in Greece, in many years of visiting, I have never seen one. There are boat trips, including glass bottomed boats from Chania harbour but I'd have doubts about you seeing dolphins.
I totally agree with Mariah, we stay in Aspro (overlooking Almyrida) its fab.
Driving in Chania is a nightmare There's too many families on mopeds (you know what it's like driving in Greece)
I suggest you enter " Villa in Almirida " as a phrase in your search engine, as there are some really nice properties in that particular area of the island, and if your hiring a car Almirida has easier access to the national road, since they built a new junction at Kalyves.
Good luck.
