your presumptuousness trumps mine - I didn't say the chicken laid the egg - he may have been the middle man for the crocodile

If the rat actually laid the egg in front of you, it solves the age old riddle.
The chicken had to come first :whoops

ermm - hate to interrupt this flow but how was the holiday Sliema2 ? What was the weather like ? We are off for the first time ever to Malta in 3 weeks time and I am glued to the discussions. I'm really looking forward to it.

Hello megian, you don't for one minute think that Sliema2 is going to tell you about anything he got up to do you, he has only been to malta 32 times and as yet none of us on this forum has any idea what he gets up to. I think he did go into a bar and meet another member and used a well known now closed restaurant, but the rest is a mystery, there was talk that someone like him was once seen walking around the country side with one of those hats with two cans of Blue Label on the side with straws in them.

Have a good time and if there is anything you need to know about Malta just ask Sliema2 :tup

Thanks Dave
I get the picture !!
I'm sure we will enjoy ourselves. We always look for the positives in everything and there certainly seems to be a lot in Malta from what people say. Just keeping fingers crossed for a bit of sun at least.

Hello Everyone,
Well its now 3 years past and I couldn't stand it any longer....had to get back to the island in the sun.
Its been like a torture reading the posts but not being able to get back.
30th April I will return and taking the two 'youngest' with us this time.
What is this about a restaurant closing? Not Il Merill I hope.

Hello, talking of going home well I have to inform you all that I will be going to my second home this Friday, yes Portugal I know this is the Malta site but I know you all like to know what we are up to when we are not in Malta. Me and Mrs Holidaymaker and our two friends are going to Lisbon for a weekend break, to eat great Fresh Fish and drink lots of Red Wine and Beer see all the sites we both like and to show our friends who have never been before.
I was thinking of going back to Malta this October but the prices are just way to expensive for the hotels on offer and the price of a flight, they will have to bring them down in line with the rest of Europe before we go again, this is a pity as we both like Malta but when you can go for a weeks H B in Mallorca for about £250.00, why pay £400.00 to go to Malta in a poor class B&B These prices are in October so it may be back to there again(Mallorca).
Any way you can be sure we will all have a good time in Lisbon as we always do and by the way we are traverling with Easy Jet from Luton and have also booked the hotel with them and it works out to £110.00 each Taxi from the airport to the hotel is 20 euros one way, so for the whole weekend its only £120.00 not bad for a 4* B&B in Lisbon (a)

We feel the same as you Dave. We looked for a hotel in Malta for October and the prices are way beyond us. The flights from our local airports are bad too, who wants to land in Malta at 3.30 a.m. You've lost a day then. We booked a holiday in Majorca for half the price of Malta. The prices for Malta have to go down a lot before we go again.

Hello northantsj.
Yes that is another thing the flights they all seem to be night flights no matter what airport you fly from to Malta I think we have only ever had one good flight time to Malta but we had to go from Gatwick 2 to 3 hours and when you live in the Midlands who wants that, when you have East Midlands 45min's, Birmingham 1 hour and Luton 1 hour 10 mins.

Hello guys,

We booked through chevron for the 1st time and are paying £300.00 each for 7 nights in 3* plaza regency in May B&B.[prefer to eat out and about]
Flights with easy jet from Gatwick and leave at 6.30am land at 10.40. coming back leave 11.15am land at 13.30.
Luckily we are only about 1 hour from Gatwick.
We have opted for front seaview rooms which ups the price but you are only on this planet once.
Creatures of habit we stayed here last time and loved the location ,the view and had no problems at hotel.
Cant wait to get back.
Just have to find somewhere else to go for Bragioli now Il Merrill is no more. :(

We didn't get a quote under £500 for seven nights in October for A.I. from our local airports which are the same as Dave's as we live in the same area. These quotes were for 3 star hotels we knew had bad reviews, the 4 star ones were a lot more expensive. It wouldn't be so bad if they were day flights but they were all Chevron night flights.

Must admit that I'm gobsmacked at Air Malta's prices this year, we are booked for June but looking at September and Novembers prices they are really expensive, we love Malta very much and don't ever want to stop going but at these prices they are going to price people out of the market especially when we could fly elsewhere in Europe for a fraction of the price, at this rate I can feel a twin centre holiday in Germany and Belgium possibly coming on.

My mum wants her usual trip to Malta in October - this year it is nearly £200 more than last year for 2 weeks half board at the Santana with Chevron. I know the euro/sterling rate has a lot to do with it but that is a big increase.

what was the cost last year ?

As I've said before, more and more Europeans are visiting Malta from the Eurozone (Germany, Holland, France, Italy etc), so the prices are just fine for them. It's only the British that are seeing it as expensive due to the weak pound. Sure you might be able to get a cheaper flight to Spain or wherever but eating out, traveling etc will cost significantly more than in Malta.

I was in France a couple of weeks ago in a ski area and I was paying 8 euros for a beer in most places. In Malta I can get the same beer for 2 euros.

There has also been a significant shift generally from the British with far more continental Europeans visiting and buying property in Malta. It's great it gives the place a much more cosmopolitan feel and really is returning to what is was before the British occupied the island.

hence my question - has it gone up more than the currency rate change ? if no, you are right

Hi openminded, it's not the comparison in price due to the price of the Euro vs Pound Sterling, it's the comparison in cost compared to last month's flights and the past few years, the difference this year is huge compared to what we have paid in the past.
