We've booked to go back this year! We went for the first time last May after years of Greek islands and loved it but this time are going in June.
The Euro rate is a real pain but it only adds £250 or so to our spends and we got a great deal on the actual holiday due to all the discounts being offered, so all in we're not paying much more than last year in total :sun2

about 2k in spends.

£1500 seems fair for 2 weeks holiday including flights, but £2000 in spending money.....I'm speechless! Almost. We never spent anywhere near half that for the two of us for a fortnight, eating out most lunchtimes and evenings, buying food in for the odd evening meal in and breakfasts, plus beer/wine for drinking in digs. And that would also include petrol for the hire car plus fuel for us during the day; coffee and cakes, frappes, ice-creams. I'm not renowned for watching the pennies when on holiday.
Even allowing for the cr@p exchange rate, thats a lot for 2½ people. I'm assuming you were there for a fortnight.

The biggest stumbling block for us is flight prices.
We usually stay in Larnaca for a week then move on to Pissouri.
The Larnaca price is the same for this year as it was when we last went in 2007, Pissouri is cheaper. I've been emailed a special offer due to the exchange rate and credit crunch.

we budget about 2k for 2 weeks !

think about it along the lines of ....

hire a car for a week plus fuel.... £200 ?

trip to water park, £10 for taxi plus £15 per head ? (4 people £70)

Boat trip another 10-20 a head... (another 40-80)

Jeep Safari around £40 each....(160 for 4)

Meal out with a drink around £50 for 4 if not to extravagant (we paid £110 Cyp a few years back for an Indian mea for 8 of us !)

Drinks in general add up all day... coke here, bottle of water there, beer, wine... etc....

it quickly adds up.....

Had been hoping to return to Cyprus this year for Oct half term but thanks to a £200 increase in price in two weeks it isn't going to happen. Tried to get First Choice to allow the cheaper price as we have already booked a £3500 holiday with them to Kenya but they wouldn't budge. I refuse to pay nearly £1700 for 1 week for 2 adults and 1 child when we can and have booked for Zante £1100.

We have had many holidays in Cyprus in the past and would love to return but until the holiday cost comes down we won't be returning :cry . I work in a school so obviously can only go during the school hols so the tour ops love people like me.

We were there for two weeks in Pernera near Protaras and we paid for our hire car before we got there so I guess if you add that it would be even more. We didn't travel to far in the car so our fuel bills weren't relatively big. We didn't eat extravagantly, went to pretty much the cheapest restaurants around and stuck to any that were cheap but tatsy. We did eat out twice a day though.

by the time we got up and ready we had 'brunch' which kept us going til dinnner esp with the heat! All we can do is hope the euro against the pound goes back to a decent exc rate soon.

Last year we spent about £1500 for the two of us and that didn't include any car hire, any trips etc,
we just eat and drink whatever we liked, when we liked! I don't see the point going away and scrimping......Cyprus is expensive but due to the euro its no more expensive than any other country in the euro.

well, after thinking protaras was off for us this year it may be be reinstated. school term time is a week later than we previously thought so we can go last week in august and first week in september. this has brought the price down by about £300 and also means the weather might be a degree or 2 cooler which mrs davetraceyuk was worried about. however all the big tour operators are still asking far too much for fairly basic accommodation and daft o clock flight times. last year we paid £1700 for a one bed apt at rising star with a.m flights which was reasonable as rising star has plenty going on. this year the quotes at a non entertainment accomodation (sandra apts) are about £2500 with night flights. Olympic holidays are faring better with the cost at about £2000 with good flights so we think we will end up going with them if we go ;)

Go on Dave, book it!!! You know you want to :tup

Yeah Dave - go for it :cheers
May see you yet, as we''re off on 2nd to 16 September - so we may overlap a few days. :yikes :D
We usually book with Onthebeach(flight) and Olympic Holidays (accom) --or maybe other way round  ..but this year the cheapest deal we found was with Thomas Cook for everything. Their online discounts were great etc.
