I am going to Benidorm next Tues and the Cheltenham Festival will be on . I fancy a wee flutter, is there any truth that the police have closed down the bars which are taking bets ?

i doubt that would happen long term , you should do what i do , open an internet account , say paddy power and place your bets in the morning , you get better prices , and you know if you get a big win you will get paid out.
dougiel ... my understanding is that the bars remain open while authorities decide on what action should be taken in connection with the allegations of illegal gambling. In addition to betting, the owners of some British bars which provide bingo or karaoke have also been complaining of increased police attention.

I didnt know that Karaoke was illegal, mind you if they heard me singing they'd probably close the bar there and then.
