We booked a hol for the 2 of us, plus just 2 of the kids, as my stepdaughter who doesnt live with us isnt going on our big hol in dec to florida, so thought we would treat her and the one we have together and leave the others with their 'other' parent, ie my kids with their dad, stepson who lives with us is going to his mums.
The euro is pretty dire, so we are trying to think of ways to NOT spend to much, so far we are taking teabags, noodles for the kids as they will happily eat these as a midday meal, crisps and a few sweets, we will have a main meal out somewere at teatime, so think i will take some cereal for every other day as we are on holiday, dont want to scrimp to much...anything else i could do????
Anyone been lately and can suggest any cheap eating places, when we went before Tom Browns had a good 'deal of the day' kind of meal which wasnt to bad price wise.
Thanks
Michelle
You don't say whether you're in a hotel or an apartment? If apartment, although the Euro is bad, stuff is still much cheaper in the supermarkets than in bars etc. We went to Cala D'Or last September, and took a cool bag & freezer blocks so we could take sandwiches to the beach instead of buying while we were out (we also put pop in for the kids & a couple of bottles of beer for the adults). We saved quite a bit doing this & it didn't impact on the holiday (i.e. we didn't feel like we were scrimping!) - in fact, the men enjoyed not having to trek across the beach for food & a beer at lunch time! I refuse to cook on holiday, so at tea time we still ate out but every other night tried to have a cheap bar meal (try the British places) to cut back a bit. Not what we'd normally do on holiday but saved a bit this way too.
PS - If you're going to do this, don't forget a bottle opener!
hi there i would take cheese bacon and ham too great for sarnies the supermarkets abroad seem really expensive for these items and yes loads of chocolate and crisps sweets and biscuits freeze one lot of your bacon but mark it too make sure you use that one first then that keeps the other stuff nice and cool
Thanks, like the ideas, will more than likely use them all, we are staying at the aparthotel Martinique in Magaluf
Think you'll find that some (certainly not all) Bars and Restaurants are planning to drop their prices to combat the effect of the poor exchange rate (caused of course by the weak pound) and if you shop around there will be offers and deals available.
Cheers,
Adam
Try to do your food shopping in the larger supermarkets, rather than the over-priced ones in resort. The menu of the day in most restaurants is normally good value. Don't bother with sunbeds on the beach, buy an umbrella and you'll save a fortune. I think last year it was €18 for 2 beds and a brolly for the day.
where did you go cos were were only paying 9 euros for 2 sunchairs and an umbrella and thsi was in Maglauf beach, Son Matias Beach, Son Caliu, Soller, and in Palma
Said prices were on a par if not slightly cheaper than here still. Whether that's just because it was out of season not sure but he said a lot of the bars/restaurants were closed so less competition - he thought prices would have been a lot more expensive than they were

We went to Porto Colom.
best tip is to go all inclusive no good i know if you have already booked but with the euro being bad it does save you money
There will be lots of offers in resort as alot of people this year will opt for hotels. When choose where to eat have alook at the menu before you go in, that way you can see the prices. Happy House have 2 places on Magalluf sea front both of them are reasonable priced and very similar to the Fantastic Tom Browns.
Hi use the big supermarkets we allways go allinclusive you can still eat out i only take coffee with me as i like my coffee we have just got a real bargain with cosmos miss price paid for 16th july alinclusive in the lagohotel in alcudia 3 adults thats flights hotel and tras for £730 for all three they missed the thousend sign off should have been £1,730 to day its gone up again paid with tesco points too so free holiday

I've seen a few posts regarding similar situations Helen and the customer has always had to pay so it seems. Here's a quote today from a post in complaints:-
I booked this holiday last July after the same company had messed up my earlier booking to Ibiza,I had paid deposit for an AI holiday costing over £2000 FOR 2 adults and 1 child, took in quote from internet, they matched it,a few weeks later they informed me that they had undercharged by £792,I had to pay the difference or cancel, even though it was advertised at the wrong price,it would have made our holiday £800 more for this year than we paid for same hotel leaving one day later than last year.We are still with the same company.

I know the above is referring to deposit but am sure I've read of others who've paid the final balance.
It's worth knowing that Glynis. I would have thought that once I had paid it would be a legally binding contract. You live & learn.

Well we went, and are now home, from a nightmare week, due to the hotel, on arrival there was only one bed made in the bedroom, the unmade bed was full of stains and had a burn hole in it, rubbsih left in the cupboard and room boiling hot from radiators, we got the mattress changed, and turned down the rads, but the big one in the living room had the knob missing and couldnt turn it down, the rooms were newly refurbished, but the sofa beds were dogdy, looked like they hadnt been screwed up properly, well they hadnt as one collapsed on my son....noise all night long till 6am, and this continued EVERY night, we had no pans, and no chairs on the balcony, someone set a fire on their balcony above us, we arrived sunday, finally got maid to get us pans on the wenesday as the reception staff didnt get us any despite 3 requests, on walking back from the playpark a lad was peeing in full view on the tennis courts, we wished we had gone with our instincts and changed hotels at our own expense,,,,,we tried to contact the number for cosmos in palm, couldnt get through, so a very horrible week for us, what a waste of money, do not go to Martinique with children, great for young adults who want a good time, this hotel really should be adults only.
