don't think there is a cheap way. Sister couldn't find one anyway. She flew over with globespan and paid to take extra luggage over. However, she did find some items were almost impossible to find out in Cyprus. For some reason- light fittings and curtains. She has been over here a few times since, or friends and family have been out. And she ends up getting them to take extra luggage each time.

Keep researching- you might find shipping at an afordable price. Perhaps during this credit crunch prices may have come down?

Hi

We used Britannia to ship our items when we moved out here 5yrs ago.

You can have a choice of paying for sole use of a container or sharing. If you decide to share, then it's a case of either putting your stuff (packed separately) in someone else's container or waiting for someone else to share yours. You could have your stuff waiting for a few weeks depending on how soon the container will be filled so make sure what you are taking isn't going to be needed as soon as you arrive.

However, there is another shipping agent who sponsors the BFCCLL forum and also Cyprus Living forum (M & S Shipping) and they will do part loads. You get charged for the cubic meter of space you use and they can also arrange independent shipment of items and will give you quotes.

Good luck! We're still lovin' our new life here in Limassol....

All good wishes for a safe move and a happy life out there CourtneeLouise.

Might I suggest you check the voltage requirements for your electricals - I suspect that you'll need to change the plugs at least and many of their sockets don't have an earth fitting as in the UK. However I'm more concerned about your TV - it depends if the tv system there is PAL - as in the UK and most of Europe - or SECAM like we have in France. I would suggest you buying a television once you get out there and if you have a digibox from the UK, keep up your subscriptions from a UK address. You'll need to get a dish installed and make sure that you know which satellite and frequencies apply so you can get UK TV and make sure that the installer understands that you don't want the usual local channels and orientation of the dish - at least not yet!!

If there are still British Army bases on Cyprus, maybe some one moving back to the UK or another overseas posting might have things you need that you can't actually bring with you. Just a thought.

Moving IS expensive - just one of the many facets of your new life that you will be discovering. Hope all goes according to plan. xxxxxxxxx

Cyprus uses 3 pin electrical sockets - the same as in UK, so no need to have anything adapted. The voltage is the same too.

TV's can be a problem though and may have to be converted. Sometimes you get picture without sound, which means they need converting. Not something we did as we bought ours here, but I believe it is only cheap. TV's and most electrical items are more expensive in Cyprus as they all have to be imported.

The only adapter you will need will be to plug your 2 pin mosquito mat in!!!!

Enjoy :cheers

I don't want to be a pain CwB, but are the three pins rectangular like in the UK or round like in France?

Exactly like the UK ones - on same voltage.

That's a relief! We still have a drawer full of left-over British plugs since our move to France 16 years ago!!
