Dont know specifically about Mark Warner, but if when you say Egypt you mean Sharm, nearly all the 4* and 5* hotels are gated with security on them. Many have very long drives once you pass security until you get to reception. On the other side of the hotel you should have the sea, unless you pick a resort on the opposite side of the road.

Re scuba diving for your 10 year old. There are various programmes on offer and I am sure there will be something suitable. I think bubblemaker and discove scuba are probably the places to start. I am no expert though and you may be better asking these questuions on the Egypt Forum as there are a few members who are divers on there.
