We are also flying Newcastle to Sanford on May 16th, returning May 30th (MON365/MON364). I'm guessing from previous posts that we'll be flying on the airbus A330-200? We've booked extra legroom seats but when I look at the seatguru website, it isn't obvious which ones these are (other than those by the exits) - our daughter is 10 so I know we won't be allocated one of those. We have been told that a rows of seats were taken out to provide extra legroom seats away from the exits - but I can't work out from the diagram which these are??
I'd be very grateful if you could let me know!
Many thanks

boldonmum,

Welcome onboard :tup
Your flights are indeed operated by an Airbus A330-200. Extra legroom seats are located on rows 8 and 31. I believe they also sell row 38 as extra leroom, although I personally wouldn't describe it as such. The outboard seats have an inch or two extra seat pitch as they are angled slightly because it's where the fuselage starts to narrow. This isn't an exit row and therefore under 16's can sit there.

Hi Darren
Thanks for your speedy reply! can I just check then, that given we have a child with us, we wouldn't be allocated rows 8 or 31 because they are on exit rows? Or can children sit in the middle bit (away from the exits?)
Cheers

boldonmum,

Under 16's can't sit in exit rows, only extra legroom seats at bulkheads and ones that aren't emergency exits. Centre seats are still classed as emergency exits rows. Full regulations are listed on the CAA's website.

sorry to labour the point :(

given that there are 3 of us, and one is a child, does that mean that two of us will be in row 38 and one somewhere else? Can't see that there are any bulkhead seats that aren't by an emergency exit?
thanks

boldonmum,

Row 38 is the first of the 2-3-2 so I can only think of that row being allocated as I know these seats have been sold as extra legroom in the past and a child can't sit at exit rows. You might get A/C then D, or 3 in the middle although it's the outboard seats (A/C G/J) that have the extra room. The only bulkhead seats are row 1 in premium. I'm sure Monarch will sort you out.

thanks! it sounds like whatever we get isn't going to give us much extra legroom given that we are flying with a child so not sure it was really worth the money :think
you live and learn....
Thanks for your help

With regards to the A330s, I am flying to Tenerife this friday on what should be an A330 operated flight. Being a short haul service, no dedicated premium service is offered, so I was wondering if I can turn up to check in and request one of the Premium seats up front, or do they count as extra legroom seats that you have to pay extra for? It is a charter flight, so there is no option of pre-booking specific seats like there is on the scheduled flights.

Steview,

Premium seats are sold as extra legroom when operating short haul flights. If there are any spare, they'll be offered for sale at check-in.

We flew Monarch, Gatwick to Luxor at the end of February 2009 and booked extra legroom expecting exit seats. To our surprise we were in row 6 as the first 7 rows were extra legroom. And good they were too. Don't know if this is relevant.

It would have been relevent, but it turns out my flight has been switched to an A300-600 which is economy throughout. Oh well, a new aircraft type for me anyway, i'll just have to fold my legs in half.

There are in fact several rows towards the rear of the Monarch A330's that offer additional legroom space. As pointed out, these are the outboard seats where the a/c narrows (rows 38-45), on both sides. I cannot remember at present how many of these rows offer the additional legroom but I am almost certain it is all of these. You would not be allocated the rearmost setas as these are classed as emergency exit seats.

I would suggest you contact your tour operator to get hold of the additional legroom seats and not leave it to chance. Alternatively, you can call Monarch Charter Customer Services on 0871 225 3555 within 90 days of departure to book extra legroom seats.

Good luck :tup

partyboy_uk,

These aren't extra legroom seats. There is only one of the rows (38), where the aircraft fuselage 'bends' so the outbourd seats are angled slightly that offer any extra room. And I certainly wouldn't describe that row as extra legroom even though I know Monarch have sold it as such. The pairs at the rear give the impression of extra legroom, but they the same seat pitch.

boygeorgefan,

MAN-CFU-MAN (MON3528/9) are nomally operated by an Aibus A300B4-605R. If you remind me in the middle of May, I'll be able to confirm it for you. You'll find further arcraft information on our What Aircraft? thread.

boygeorgefan,

As I mention, I'll need to wait until the middle of May for confirmation. A321's are used off peak, but A300B4's are sometimes used at peak times.
