Thanks, although i'm still quite confused. I can only book my seats for the inbound flight, but not the outbound
Virgin have a limit of 60% pre requested (remember it is only a request, not a booking, you can be moved) seats. Once this is reached you can only choose your seat once you check in either at the airport or online.
Just a long shot...I travelled with Virgin Atlantic to JFK a few weeks back, and was wondering if anyone could tell me the aircraft I travelled on, i.e. its registration (it was flight VS003 LHR>JFK on Saturday 18th April 2009, Airbus A340-600). Any help would be muchly appreciated.
As for the topic of aircraft changes, we were due to return to LHR on a Boeing 747-400, but returned instead on an Airbus A340-300. This change, although disappointed was evident when I found out there were only 215 pax on board, so Im not sure if changes are being made based around PAX numbers.
Many thanks.
Suddy,
Our Travel Agent has just booked our flights to Nairobi for March 2010 as part of a safari package. We chose to fly Virgin Premium Economy and have been given our Locator Number. We have tried to get into 'Manage your Flights' on the Virgin website to select our seats online. However, we do not seem to be able to get into our booking - a message comes up saying "Sorry we are unable to find your booking. Please check the information you entered below and try again". Does anyone know if we will be able to book our seats and if so how we do it? Thank you for your help.
malcliz .. I have removed the locator from your post. While you wait for feedback from someone with experience of Virgin, you will find some info
give it a while. Sometimes though when booking with third parties it never works.
however the agent may have given you the Amedaus ref number which is a computer system they use to book scheduled fares.
go to www checkmytrip com ( i have had to use spaces instead of full stops as it wont let me post links, as i don't post very often)
enter the ref number given and your surname and it may bring up the virgin ref you need to get into their website.
I had to do this.
If your flights have just been booked, I would wait a day or two until the system updates as there's normally a bit of a delay between the agent booking the flights and the reservation showing on the system.
Darren
Thank you Darren. Yes the holiday was booked a couple of days ago.
We are flying to Havana from Gatwick (VS063) on 28th June and I wondered if anyone knew which plane it is likely they will use. I'm trying to find out what IFE system they will have as my son keeps asking if he will be able to play games and from what I have read it would appear that only some of the aircraft have this facility. I've checked the V-Flyer website but there does not seem to be any historical information on which aircraft have been doing this flight (I know it's Configuration 1 but nothing else). Our previous long-hauls have been First Choice and I'm afraid he will be disappointed this time.
Any information gratefully received.
Thanks
Louise
LGW-HAV-LGW (VS063/4) are operated by a Boeing 747-400 (LGW/MAN suite). You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? thread. Virgin have several IFE systems fitted depending on aircraft type and base. You'll have an aircraft with the Odyssey or Super Nova system. See V-Flyer for system information.
Darren
Unfortunately this has confirmed my worst fears - looks like we are getting the Super Nova system as the Odyssey seems to be on the Configuration 2 aircraft and I don't see anything on the websites about games. I'll just go off and break it to him gently
Thanks
Louise
Not necessarily . They use a mixture of aircraft based in LGW so it could be either / or. For example, these are the aircraft that have operated VS063/4 through May:
17th May: G-VTOP (Odyssey)
13th May: G-VROM (Super Nova)
10th May: G-VXLG (Odyssey)
6th May: G-VROM (Super Nova)
3rd May: G-VGAL (Super Nova)
Darren
Many thanks for all the information Darren. We will wait with bated breath to see which aircraft we end up with and keep our fingers crossed.
I am flying to Vegas in August in PE does anyone know if the new PE seats in leather are on the planes yet?
vegasone,
G-VFOX is part of the LHR fleet.
Virgin nearly doubles profit
Virgin Atlantic has managed to nearly double its pre-tax profits in the toughest trading environment of its 25-year history.
The airline grew profits from £34.8 million last year to £68.4 million for the year from March 2008 to February 2009.
It said the growth was down to a rise in premium travellers and "prudent management decisions".
Group sales, including its tour operator business Virgin Holidays, rose 8.4% from £2.380 billion to £2.579 billion.
The total number of passengers carried during 2008 increased to 5.77 million.
Virgin employees will benefit from a bonus payout, as 10% of the group's profits is shared among staff.
President Sir Richard Branson said: "The last financial year has proven to be the most volatile yet in our 25-year history. To increase profits against a backdrop of such a severe recession is an excellent achievement by all of our staff."
The results are in stark contrast to other airlines, including rival British Airways which reported an annual loss before tax of £401m last week (see separate story today).
BA said premium traffic had fallen by 13% in the second half of its financial year.
Virgin chief executive Steve Ridgway added: "We are winning market share from our competitors during the toughest trading environment ever."

Does you know what flight is operated by the aircraft that goes on to operate VS21?
Just so I can keep an eye on any delays (although I know they have spare A340-300's at the moment)
But more importantly, I am hoping for G-VSUN
