hi
what sort of tips do you give in an a/i in cuba? normally go to goa so its easy as we have an idea of what people earn and tip accordingly, and we always go bb. so we usually tip the room boy/girl at the beginning of first week and a bigger tip at the end of the second week. so at an a/i do you tip the waiter/barman every time you order and how much? i think the cuc is about 1.3 to the pound at the moment. what do the denominations come in - i suppose 1's and 2's would be favourite.dont want to insult staff by leaving a pathetic tip but also,as in goa, dont want to make the mistake of giving 'silly tips' if you know what i mean!
thanks
Have great time in a great country.
thanks snowyboy - its our first time there so really looking forward to it.we're staying at the sol rio luna y mares and its got really good reviews.also my sister came back on tuesday and they loved the hotel. they have been about five times so they knew what to compare it to.
Great you will enjoy we stayed at PRDO next door same beach back again end of June.
We stayed in excellent Sandals Hicacus, Varadero and at the bar I was invisible until I started tipping
Found a little and often is better than a big tip at the end when you are likely to miss someone who has given you good service.
After a couple of days of your holiday, you will know, when, and how much to tip!
I'm taking some gifts and will tip little and often
i think thats a good idea.i have read that the staff pool the tips at the end of the day at our hotel, dont know if this is true but its a good idea
Tippin is the one thing I disliked about the Cubans, it was as if you didnt get any service until you tipped...I like to think you tip for good service but I dont want to feel I wont be served until I cross thier palm with a few $ bills...This is the one thing that has put me off going back there!

Not sure where you were staying, but I found just the opposite, we got good service tip or not, and how could you dislike the Cubans the most warm and friendly people you could meet. The British hotel and shop staff could learn from the Cubans.(Would add not all).
Taken together they sum up all that Cuba is about for me, nothing is too much trouble but nothing will ever happen quickly and you just need to wait patiently while everything happens in its own time!
