Having been to both Goa and Cuba I would say tip the same in Cuba as in Goa wages may be slightly less in Cuba 1/2 CUC fine, Let me say tipping is your own opinion you get same service wether you tip or not.
Have great time in a great country.

We stayed in excellent Sandals Hicacus, Varadero and at the bar I was invisible until I started tipping

Found a little and often is better than a big tip at the end when you are likely to miss someone who has given you good service.

After a couple of days of your holiday, you will know, when, and how much to tip!

Some people tip at the end of thier trip, but i prefer to tip as i go. ;)

Tippin is the one thing I disliked about the Cubans, it was as if you didnt get any service until you tipped...I like to think you tip for good service but I dont want to feel I wont be served until I cross thier palm with a few $ bills...This is the one thing that has put me off going back there! :think

Not sure where you were staying, but I found just the opposite, we got good service tip or not, and how could you dislike the Cubans the most warm and friendly people you could meet. The British hotel and shop staff could learn from the Cubans.(Would add not all).

Admittedly, I've only ever spent one night in a big tourist hotel in all my time in Cuba but my experience has been more like Snowyboy's than Beanie65's. It's my usual practice to simply leave the small change from settling my bill in the local bars etc that we use and it's always gratefully received and never affects the standard of service. No matter how little you leave the staff at Artex, they are always unfailingly polite, courteous and prompt in their service, no matter how much you leave the staff at the terrace bar at the Casa Grande, they behave as if they are doing you a favour by even noticing you are there! Actually that's one of the things I like about them - none of this fawning over you and constant pestering about is everything OK, can they get you something else! It means that you can wile away an entire afternoon for the price of one drink in peace and quiet at one of the best vantage points for people watching in the whole of Santiago :-)

Taken together they sum up all that Cuba is about for me, nothing is too much trouble but nothing will ever happen quickly and you just need to wait patiently while everything happens in its own time!
