Hi Lyn
I think when you click to do your credit check you have to give them your bank details at that point so they have them from the start, which is rather clever. I am such a numpty I probably thought that was part and parcel of the info to give for the credit check.
I didn't think about it anymore until about 5 months later I noticed this DD coming out. I am sure it was all in order as I know they are a bona fida company, but it must just be buried somewhere in the very very small print. My argument that eventually worked was that their banners were misleading saying 'get your free credit report here' or some such stuff.
They are also now spaming me to death trying to get me to sign up again lol.
I wouldn't mind but the only reason I checked it was I had just (through my own fault)been refused a 0% Sainsburys Credit Card. I refused to give my landline number as I am Ex-dir. As I found out to my cost, if you do this it is an automatic refusal for any credit card, as it is one of the boxes that needs to be ticked.
I only went on to Experian to check my rating hadn't been adversly affected as I had never been refused a card in my life until then.
Just a catalogue of errors on my part I suppose.

Oh dear . Definately a numpty moment there Chris .
TBH I am only aware of that free trial period gimmick because I use a lot of family tree research sites and they always play the same trick. I think they are relying on you forgetting to cancel it half the time, much the same as 6 months interest free store purchases .

I think I emailed them into submission. I'm sure Which Magazine (showinf my age now) was the same. The one we all no longer use because of t'internet. Three months free and then a DD kicked in.
It was experian that I did my initial free check with but I was made aware from the outset that at the end of the free trial they would take £6.99 out of my bank (they subsequently asked for bank details)every month unless I cancelled. Apparently I can cancel at any time once the free period ends. I hope it will be as easy as it sounds.
I'm sure it will be fine Shirley. It was just me not paying attention to detail. I clicked on a sign that said get a free credit check and stupidly assumed it was a kind of one off. Serves me right really as I am old enough to know you dont get nowt for nowt.
