Hi digby.....always take my cameras and phone and all the leads ect to go with them in my hand luggage....no problem....just keep to weight allowance for hand luggage ....and ensure protected from bumps and bangs ect.....also been said could be asked to prove it really is a working camera so batteries needed.....

Another reason for not putting your camera(s) in your hold luggage; I packed my underwater video camera in a seperate suitcase along with diving equipment when I went to Antigua last year. I only did that because it weights 8kg and I had 46kg of hold luggage on that trip so thought no point carrying it and it's strong enough to drive your car over so no problems if the suitcase gets thrown around. Anyway, I got to the airport coming back home and heard an anouncement while enjoying the last few rays of sunshine in the departure lounge 'will passenger Dazbo please return to check-in'. I knew what it was before going. I got to check-in and was quizzed as to what the metal tube in my suitcase full of wires was. I then got searched after explaining it was an underwater video camera while the security staff prodded and poked the camera and housing. The moral of the story; always take cameras in hand luggage!

Hi, Dazbo. Well, who would have thought? So glad I asked for advice on here. Will now make sure camera, batteries etc. will be his only handluggage. Thanks for help.

I am off to spain for a few days with only hand luggage. What about contact lenses? I use daily disposables, so will need 5 pairs with me each in their own little container. Do these need to go in my one resealable clear bag and form part of my liquids allowance? if not, do I take another clear bag or fit them in my, nearly empty, wash bag?

Your contact lenses can stay in their own container in your bag but if they are held in any cleaning fluid / solutions they need to be less than 100ml and be in a clear plastic bag for inspection at security.

Hi, I bought my daughter a cooling spray as she gets hot on on flights, thought this may help, its an aerosol, can i put this in hand luggage or do i need to put it in a plastic bag ?

As a liquid, it needs to be less than 100ml and be in the plastic bag. Restrictions are listed on the DfT's website.

juby 5.....fancied taking some of those sprays myself as get sickly if too hot....especially in cars and coaches...and will probably be hot in arrivals....gran caneria in july ....then rhodes in august....saw some small ones which I thought would be OK....but when checked was 125mls....and as dazbo 5 says they cant be more than 100mls.....so check them to make sure....if yours are 100mls could you tell me where you got them from......

dazbo 5....if you got a small plastic spray bottle and put 100mls water in it would it be accepted....or could you take it through security empty and then put water in it ....like bottled water purchased airside or from toilet taps....would be very handy if could do....

Bottles with liquids in below 100ml in volume are acceptable. A bottle larger than 100ml filled with 100ml of liquid isn't. It states on the DfT website (link above) that containers larger than 100ml won't be allowed through security, even if partly filled. I would assume this includes empty as well.

On a flight in the US last week we emptied a water bottle and refilled it at the fountain once we were airside so I think you are allowed an empty bottle through, but not a partly filled one. It's the liquid that's banned, not the container.

hi juby 5......after posting I had a rare awakening of a few more brain cells....I remembered shopping in a market in spain and the kids wanting these little empty plastic spray bottles...they were really cheap so bought them all one.....they wanted to mess around spraying each other.....they didnt squirt just sprayed.....so they abandoned them.......I remembered thinking one of them could come in useful for spraying to iron.....but never remembered using it.......that was years ago, but am a hoarder.....so went looking in spare room through old cases ect....and I found it.....just a little bottle about 250mls with a simple press down pump spray on screw on top......I remembered when I was a kid similar ones used for hairspray....before spray cans .....making myself feel really old now........but feel like I found gold....will do the job brilliantly and can reuse when ever go somewhere hot again....ask in hairdressers could imagine they might use something similar for spraying products they buy in bulk

empty plastic bottle is fine to take through security.....others have posted saying they empty whats left in their water bottles before they go through then fill them up again from drinking water airside....can do same with spray bottle....cheaper as well than buying the arosol cooling sprays....and just pure water...no chemicals

Has anyone succesfully used the Snopake airport bag? I was thinking about getting one as going through Belfast International next week and they don't allow 3d bags so the one I have from Accessorize can't be used. problem with snopake one is the bit from the zip down to the bottom of the bag is 20cms but there's a bit above the zip so i'm thin king that more likely than not it won't be allowed. Flying into stansted and using stansted-belfast for the return journey. Would prefer to get and use the Snopake one as it's stronger than a freezer type bag.

There's loads of 3d bags which are the right size but I need a flat one for Belfast which is why I thought about the snopake one.

Last thing, I'll be 12 weeks pregnant on outward journey and almost 13 weeks on return. With it only being a 1 hour flight do I still need the graduated stockings to prevent DVT? Journey from airport to parents is about 1.5 hours in case this makes a difference.
