Turunc

Hav'nt been there for a while now, the beach is stoney, most seasons, depending on storm damage, they truck in sand and spread it out. Not sure of getting down to Kumlubak and Amos by bus, I usually walk over, there is a dolmus runs, but not too often, and a ferry goes down in the morning, and back at night, and thats about it. Not sure about capacity of either though, for a party your size. Alan

I would think cold calling might be a problem for a restaurant when 20 people walk in. I also think most would do thier best to accomodate you if they could. With that number I would be tempted to book in advance, say the night before.

Hi Wilson.

Here's a picture I took of the main part of the beach at Turunc:

I actually quite liked the pebbly/rocky bit at the end as it was good for snorkelling

You're only a Dolmus ride "over the hill" away from Icmeler.

Some more pictures of both resorts here:

Last year some parts of the beach were very sandy, but the sea is quite shingly, so some of us who aren't hardened wear beach shoes, which can be bought easily and cheaply in Turunc, all sizes.
The beach is great because the bars will bring drinks to your sunbed, so you don't really have to lift a finger till its time to eat!
Amos and Kumlubuk are lovely for a quiet day out, but the beaches aren't particularly sandy.
Es restaurant is in a fantastic position with lovely views over the bay, and very atmospheric. Its also quite small, so you may find unless you book you could have a problem.
One of our favourites is Bondjuks, on the road on the way out of Turunc - you would need to book for a such a large party there. Would be great for a celebration evening, you could probably take over the ground floor! The oven lamb which has to be ordered 24 hours earlier as it is cooked slowly overnight is wonderful! As is the well-known 'Bondjuk salad' ,one of the other treats we always look forward to! Getting hungry, just thinking about all the great food!

Thanks everyone for the info on Turunc, love the sound of the Bonjuks restaurant and the slow baked lamb. It's always great to have these recommendations, and as the silly s.d who organised the 4 families it can make me look organised.

Are the boats trips very organised or can you just hop on a ferry like in Greece and visit another bay for the day ?

Andy,
Both really! You can get taxi-boats to and from Marmaris and Icmeler which run regularly throughout the day and evening. The ones to Amos and Kumlubuk are only 1 or 2 in the morning and 1 or 2 in the afternoon back.
There are many organised boat trips which are great value for money. They are usually all day with a barbecue on board, they take you to several other bays for swimming off the boat, and are about £10 to £15 each. You can have a great day out quite cheaply!
There are also trips to Dalyan - mud baths and turtle beach which are well worth doing. Dalyan is beautiful, and the beach is lovely.

Have seen Dantella villa in Turunc and it looks fantastic from the outside - lovely pool too. Its near the Green Garden Apartments and a stones throw from the beach and villa.

PS Agree with Alfie Bonjuk is well worth a visit - lovely place

We stayed at the Villa Dantella in Turunc last September, and would highly recommend it. There were fourteen of us altogether. Ibo, the manager and his wife Sevdiye came in every day to clean, change beds etc. and kept the place spotless, and they are such lovely friendly people. As for Turunc itself, although the beach isn't brilliant, we love it! We first discovered it about five years ago and have been going back ever since (We are going again at the end of August). Turunc is very scenic, clean, good restaurants and brilliant people without all the hassle of the bigger places. Good luck.

Hello

Please can anyone tell me if there is a PADI scuba dive shop in Turunc please?

Has anyone stayed in Turunc and done scuba diving from there?

Thanks

Sarah

Thanks to Alfie,Plumbud and all, really useful information.

Perhaps you can help on another point. My wine drinking alcoholic friends are very concerned they will not be able to stomach the local wine. Is there much of a selection in local restaurants/supermarkets for a nice dry sauvignon blanc /rose or someting similar ... hic! Price???

That really depends on their own taste, Personally I think the wine is awfull and very expensive to buy it in Restauraunts also about 6 lira for a small glass, Tell your friends to bring their own and drink it on the balcony of their hotel, Some people have said in other forums that Kavaklidere Sultaniye white wine is especially good, I cant comment on that as I have never seen it to purchase. I havent heard anyone say red wine is good.

Regarding wine, it depends on what you're used to. If it's generally £3 a bottle from ASDA and the cheapest house wine in UK restaurants, then there is some ok Turkish stuff you may find acceptable, but expect to pay more like £10 a bottle, even in the shops.

If you want "good" wine (say you know your vinyards and vintages or are prepared to pay £7 or more in ASDA) you may be struggling at most places in Turkey :think

I drink sauvignon blanc at home, but unfortunately I have never found a good wine in Turkey!
I drink Cankaya or Villa Dolluca (must have the word 'Villa' not just Dolluca), and find them drinkable, although probably couldn't stomach them at home.

Have occasionally had red and rose that wasn't too bad, but can't remember any names I'm afraid. Although again if I tried it at home, it would probably go down the sink!

Maybe your friends could get a selection in one of the big supermarkets in Marmaris to try at the villa, so they can find one thats acceptable, before they waste money in restaurants. I've found some of the wines undrinkable in restaurants even if they are not cheap.

Still, its the only bad thing about holidays in Turkey, everything else makes up for it!
