Kamari is a standard 'Costa del greek island' package place betwixt the airport runway and a mountain, bit prone to the meltemi wind. Rubbish black gritty beach. The scenery is spectacular on the crater rim, but it is very touristy. Very good starting point to reach some really beautiful islands in the Cyclades.

:D You are lucky if you can get into the Kafouros hotel you know. These places sell out sometimes a year before. The rooms are very basic, Greek style, but cleaned daily and run by the nicest family ever. Andonis, Georgia and the kids are truly fantastic hosts. People come back year after year.
Kamari may be touristy (as the person stated above) but its a great place to explore this truly amazing island. Its easy to find enough to do for two weeks. Oia, Thira, Akrotiri to mention a few. Kamari is so much nicer than Perissa and Perivolos aswell. Any more info email me

We stayed in Kamari in October this year,it was the last week of the season and was pretty quiet so I would have preferred to stay in Thira, which seemed livelier.
Beach isn't up to much, it's true and yes there was a stiff breeze for 3 days butthe resort did have a pleasant atmosphere, no yobs and some really nice places to eat.Try the Balcony and the combined Indian/Chinese restaurant.Transport is very cheap and regular and make sure you explore the island.2 weeks would probably have been too long for us, it is a small island. It is very scenic, we've just edited our pictures and video, all on DVD now and it's come out stunning, our friends were very impressed.

I've booked at the Kafouros Studios for me and my family for my wedding in Santorini next year. I've hunted all over the internet for photos of the rooms/reception/bar/etc. but can only find the Kosmar brochure photo.

Does anyone have any good photos they can email me or point me to a website.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps. :D

Hi CallyBear,

I am flying to Santorini and staying in the Kafouros Studios in August for two weeks.

I have been looking for information and photos but have had no luck so far. The only place was in the Kosmar brochure.

I have still not found any photos of Kafouros Studios, but when I am back I will post a review and maybe some photos.

What dates will you be staying at Kafouros? I am 23rd August - 6th September.

My daughter stayed at the Kafouros last October whilst we were at the Atalos just up the road.We spent some time with her at Kafouros and found them very good. The appartments were clean and are very attractive to look at.The pool is clean and well kept and we were made very welcome even though we were not staying there.

We have recently returned from our holiday in Santorini, we stayed at the Kafouros Studios in Kamari. The family who own and run the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The reception area is rarely used, as someone is always in the pool bar. The hotel is situated approx 5 min walk from the beach, shops and restaurants.
The rooms are basic, but clean. The pool area is very nice, and is kept clean and tidy. The rooms are very close to the seating area of the bar and pool so it can be very noisy at times.

The only downside to the hotel while we were there was that the teenagers staying at the time preferred style of music was a mixture of hardcore and club music. This was played on very loud speakers throughout the day and night. Eventually this got very annoying especially when we was trying to relax by the pool or get to sleep.

Kamari itself is an excellent resort, with a number of nice restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. These run along side the beach and off side streets from there.
Even though the beach is black sand it was still very nice but the sand can get very hot!

We did visit Fira on a number of occasions using the local bus service which was excellent and easy to use. This costs 1euro each way. Fira is a lovely picture postcard town with narrow cobbled streets with lots of breathtaking views. This definately is the place to go if you love shopping! You can either walk approx 586 steps down to the harbour, use the donkeys or cable car. The food is more expensive in Fira as you pay extra for the view.

We booked with Kosmar to go on the sunset cruise to watch the sunset at Oia. This cost approx 45euros each. We did not think that this was all it was cracked up to be, and was definately overpriced. The food is a small buffet, and the unlimited wine was actually one small cup each. We would recommend using the bus service to go to Oia then watch the sunset from the windmill or church.

We also would recommend a visit to red beach.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and will be returning to Santorini :D

The photo is of the pool area, the reception is in the far left corner but this is rarely used as the pool bar is always open from 8am - atleast 2am.

Hi Callybear,

Just checked my photos, unfortunatley we didn't take any of our room or the reception area. We actually did not use the reception area at all as the bar is outside. In the reception is where the kitchen is, they do hot and cold snacks throughout the day but you eat outside. If you have a late departure time there is a shower available to use in the reception area.

The rooms are of a good size, and have basic cooking facilities. We didn't do any cooking though as there is so many restuarants to try in Kamari! :D
