Your nearest bar/restaurants actually out of the Playa Dorada Complex would be Cabarete or Sosua or you have actually Puerto Plata itself, I would say Cabarete or Sosua are the best for evenings but a cab will be needed for transport.It is about a 30-35min.
Also sometimes you can make a deal for a round trip and have the cab come back for you at a specific time. You then only pay on your return journey when back at your resort.

There are bars and restaurants in the Playa Dorada Complex, Hemmingways Bar and Grill, Roadways, Philips Bar who is an English guy that has live sport shown on the tv, cheaper drinks than other bars and does import english drinks/beers.
