Hi all,
I am after abit of advice and recommendations if possible.
We currently own a static van in the uk, but have decicded (or hubby has) that next year we would like to go to spain on a caravan/camping site.
Now because of the amount of kids we have, flying there is not really an option as we really can't afford it and hubby has said that he would not mind driving there.
But I have mentioned to him about coach holidays to various places in spain, so opinions on coach v's driving yourself and any advice on driving abroad, any advice at all.
Also the best sites to stay, as we have 6 kids ages ranging from 12 -2 yrs.
Thanks in advance
Helsxxx
Driving to Spain - Eurottunnel return will cost you around £80 (assuming you travel between midnight and 06:00); Autoroute tolls probabbly around €250 both ways - but use viaMichalin (?) to work that out. And fuel - I'd guess 6 tank fulls and around 2,500 miles. You can do the sums BUT driving in France is really nice and easy, stick to the speed limits and use your common sense. There are topics in the French section that expand upon this.
An alternative might be to look at a car ferry to Bilbo (?) in Northern Spain.
A sneaky way to break the trip could be to see if you can have a weekend experience at Siblu sites (if they still do it) it 3 days free stay in a static caravan but you have to accept some gentle sales activity - as you have a static allready you could spin them a good line LOL.
We do have our own caravan which we tug though our usual route is down the Eastern side of France to the L'Orange area then across the bottom via the A7 usually take a couple of stop-offs one around Macon the other Canet/Perpignan then on into Spain this year we aregoing to Blanes
We use Camping Cheques (dat the www and .co .uk for the website) as a cheap option though if you want to go without kit they also operate as system called holiday cheques which give cheap access to statics
You are limited to which sites you can use ( there's ONLY 550 in Europe) but it's a good way to go
We are off on our Grand Tug in 13 days doing Millau ( for a changeinstead of Orange) then Canet then Blanes then some friends in Pitou who have a site and a stop over from them to the docks only 21 days this year but it's all fun ans 2500 miles at around 35 miles to the gallon not bad
