Flew back this morning after our girlie break.
I would love to be able to do an extensive trip report but as it was 40 in the shade by 11am most days and reached a staggering 47 at one stage I can't say that we did much!
So a short (ish) one....
After lot and lots and LOTS of looking we managed to get a week AI at the Pasa Beach at a good price. (Review will follow) It's situated at the Icmeler end of Marmaris.
Flight going out totally uneventful, still being screened with thermal camera at the airport. Transfer to hotel....how I wish I had had time to book a private transfer as the coach is toooo much but we survived.
Hotel.... fantastic!
We did manage to do the boat trip...excellent! They do pack you in like sardines but it's a good day and great for getting a tan with little effort!
Icmeler market was open and yes there are bargains to be had but much of what they sell I already have from my yearly trips to India. I was also very concious of baggage allowance or I would have bought a few pairs of jeans.
Found a few good bars that had a bit of entertainment be it dancers, singers or drag artists. Three brothers, Blackpool (yes honest!) and another one whose name I can't remember but had amazing dancers and fantastic singers.
Coming home, again the coach is a longggg journey. At the airport people were using empty check ins to weigh cases and there were several fraught looks as they VERY strict on luggage allowance.
Dalaman airport has to be the most expensive airport anywhere! One cappucino and a black coffee was 17 lira!Fortunately you can take bottles of drink and food all the way through with you and I would strongly advise everyone to do just that.
Well it was our first trip to Turkey.... would I go back ? Yes, but I hate to think what its like it high season. Far too busy for me I think!! I would try and go back end of May/beginning June so that hopefully I might get to see and do more. I can't believe I'm actually saying that it got TOO hot on a few days
Price wise.... i think they have worked out that they are in for a good season due to not being in the euro and I have to say that I found prices for lots of things on par with here. After talking to several couples who have been going for many years they said that they had noticed that prices on menus and drinks were changing on a weekly basis and it's not as cheap as it once was.
Anyway, to add to all that I would like to say thankyou for to everyone who answered my questions about Turkey either on here or by pm.
Since our first visit to Icmeler, we've always used Icmeler Online for our private transfers and it's worth every penny. No more dreaded "comfort stops" or trailing round what seems like endless hotels and apartments to drop other people off before you finally get to your stop! They're always there ready and waiting to pick you up and the drivers are courteous and helpful. There's also a coolbox on board with water, which is an added bonus after a hot flight!
so glad you had a great girlie break and enjoyed turkey
