I think flying fom belfast tends to be more expensive anyway. But last year before i got LW for £2.5k the quotes were about £5/6k again..think i just got very lucky last year.

I priced flights only they were near £3k i tried monarch but couldnt get the availability probably too expensive anyway...Big Sigh n a Big Cry :cry

Been looking at the this resort and noticed the aircon does not start till 15 th June. Can you pay to use it as we are looking to go end of May/beggining of June. Been to Turkey before this time oy year and I need my Aircon
Reply
We went last week of May and first week of June last year and the air con was on. It was very hot so I imagine that before 15 June, it is down to the manager's discretion, depending on the weather.

We were in LW from 4th June this year for 2 weeks, temperatures were between 28 and 38. We stayed in Residence so can't really comment on Village but the Air Con was set to 24 degrees when we first arrived. You can't pay to have it any lower as it is centrally controlled. We complained and were given a fan, so many people complained during our stay that the air con was put on early but even then it is only on during the afternoon and in the evening (turning off at midnight). Ok for us being able to throw off a cover but was difficult to keep a baby warm but not too hot when the room would change 6 degrees from midnight to 7am.

The Italian is al la carte so is the most expensive but they did do set menu dinners, I think they were about 25 euros per person. We ate in the Chinese and it was ok, only 7 euros each and it was lovely not to have to fill your own plate.

Anyone considering booking for the first time might want to know the following, again I can only speak for Residence and we were travelling with an 11 month old baby so our priorities may not be everyones.......

We booked a private transfer and were very glad we did, heard some horror stories of 2 1/2 hour bus journeys. we used Hamish McTurk who were fine but if you wanted to book a taxi direct with LW it is actually no more expensive.

We were disappointed with our Standard Double room, for a 4 star hotel that charges such a high price the rooms were very dated (not been changed in 25 years as far as I could see). Bug screen fell off in my hand, clattering to the floor. TV was very old and tempramental. carpet was old and stained and the vent inthe bathroom was blocked which made for a very stuffy room.

Staying in Residence was very convenient for all the main pools and facilities. Having a baby we had to nip back to our room a lot and if we had been in one of the village blocks far away it would have been a nightmare. Even the shortest of walks up that hill feels a lot in 38 degrees.

The Baby Club was pretty good although our son would not stay more that 30 minutes. The Baby club is from 6 months until they are 3 and old enough to join the kids clubs. The staff in the baby club did seem to like to have them all sat together and play with a few toys in the middle and then have a long sleep in their buggy. This is ok untill they are crawling and walking and don't want to sleep so much. I would say beware planning to put a 1 or 2 year old in as they will get bored and frustrated. The kids Clubs (from 3 upwards) onthe other hand looked fantastic and I have never seen such enthusiastic staff.

We had hoped to do some watersports during our stay but although they have dinghies to hire (5 euros an hour) this is by no means a sailing resort. In 2 weeks there was 1 day when there was just about enough wind to sail. Water skiing and jet ski's are very expensive, 65 euros for 30 minutes.

For mass catering on this scale the food is excellent but as with any hotel gets boring after 2 weeks.

During our stay the complex was only half full but felt busy enough and always had a good atmosphere. A lot of people arrived during our last 2 days and suddenly the marina restaraunt felt a bit like Butlins in the sun. Personally we would never go in high season having had a taster of people fighting for tables.

Unfortunatly our son was ill during our stay so we had to visit the doctor on site. No one ever wants to plan to use medical facilities while on holiday but I can report the doctor spoke excellent english, was brilliant with all the kids and having him on-site saved wasting a whole day getting a taxi to the nearest medical centre.

We may return in the future when our son is old enough to enjoy all the facilities and hopefully the rooms have been modernised. This is a fantastic resort for families but to all those people who return year after year I have to say there are many other hotels offering a similar type of holiday. Maybe I am just missing something or maybe I need to get used to holidaying with a child rather than with friends or partners.........

Finally if you are travelling with a baby and the hotel tell you food in the childrens resteraunt will be fine for them be warned nothing is pureed and when I asked was told it can't be. Buying jars there is 6 euros each and a half tub of formula is 14 euros so if you can, take your own. The paths, tracks and roads around the resort are very uneven so think carefully which buggy you take. Lightweight stroller is great for travelling and takes up less room in the hotel room but if we were going again I would take my 3 wheeler with suspension and sturdy wheels. Other people with large buggys just seemed to leave them outside the room and it never seemed to be problem..

Sorry this turned into war and peace, hope some of you find it helpful.

Thanks for info on air con

Now for all you Lykia experts I have got a price for 2 weeks flying from our local airport on 24th May 2010 (so the holiday includes the Engish school holidays) for 3 adults 2 children 12 & 14 (classed as adult)
Was having trouble getting the 5 people in rooms so I priced it as 2 different quotes.

2 adult 1 child 2318.00 (this includes 1 free child place)
2 adults 2132.00
----------
4450.00

Is 4450.00 a decent price for the 5 off us.
Flights, transfer,flight meals & 23 kg/person luggage included.
Rooms are twin rooms.

Thanks for your help (sorry my pound sign is not worrking on keyboard)

Laudan,

That sounds about right, we were £2400 for 2 adults and 1 child from Aberdeen which is an expensive airport to fly from. After I had booked I discovered I could have saved a further £400 by using Monarch Rooms which would have made it only £2k.

If you are staying in the Village just make sure you don't get Garden rooms - they are the pits!! They don't have balconies so just make sure your room description says balcony.

Good Luck

Marcia - we would all be very interested to learn of other hotels offering a similar type of holiday? This is what all the Lykia fans keep searching for, unsuccessfully! So we would be happy to hear your suggestions.

Been reading through this thread/reviews and noticed a lot of people moaning about the price of drinks and advising to get a taxi to the town and stock up your fridge. Does the hotel allow you to drink your own soft drinks/alchol in resort as most hotels on Turkey I have stayed in are very stricked on this.

Most people I saw got their drinks from the bar. It would be a bit of a palava to get a load of stuff from the supermarket as it's about 5 kilometers from Olu Deniz and the taxis all belong to Lykia World, I guess if you brought in a 2 litre bottle of fanta now and again nobodys going to say much.

You get plenty of free wine, beer and quality soft drinks (not that awful tang stuff you get in a lot of Turkish AI's you get branded 7up, coke etc) at meal times so for most of the day you are catered for up till about 9.30pm when you would probably be leaving the restaurant.

I am sure some people do bring drinks in but I would imagine they are in the minority. I would think the rational is if you can afford to go to Lykia in the first place, you can probably afford a few drinks of a night. But you will always get a few who buy cokes and try and stick their own bacardi in it from under the table where ever you go.

Hi Victor here - going back to LW on Thursday night - yippee!.

Wondered if anyone had gone out on the hotel run boat cruise rather than the ones run from the town - I think the hotel one was about 5 times as expensive as the others which I recall were £5 (and you got what you paid for - i.e not much).

Do you get a decent lunch / standard of boat and staff with the LW trip? (and drinks with lunch?).

Also thinking of doing the kayak trip out on the river - any other takers out there?

Appreciate any help

Cheers

Vic

We did the hotel boat trip 3 years ago and enjoyed it very much. You don't get lunch, it is just a morning trip and you got back just in time to dash to the Marina for a late lunch. They included drinks on board, beer and soft drinks and coffee, and I seem to remember some cake or snack of some sort, as 'elevenses'. A member of the LW excursion staff came along to organise things. The boat wasn't crowded with people. They pick you up and drop you directly from the LW jetty, so it is nice and simple.

Know nothing about the kayak trip, I'm afraid.

Hi. I'm hoping some kind person can help me with a couple of questions.

Myself, hubby and 4 1/2 year old daughter are going to lykia World for a week on 7 october. Does anybody out there know if all the facilities will still be available this late in the season, ie kids clubs, restaraunts and activities?

many thanks laura

Hi

went to Lykia last october and all entertainment kids clubs etc were on as per usual.

Not all the restaurants were open all the time but that was just because the hotel was not full. The marina was open every night

any more questions just ask

Thanks so much lesley for getting back, that's put my mind at rest. I was a bit worried it was going to be a bit "dead". I've heard the marina restaraunt is great so I'm really glad it's going to be open.
Is the weather still ok for sunbathing in October? What would you suggest would be adviceable to bring from the UK - heard that the on site shop can be pricey.

I'm really looking forward to it, especially as it's so geared towards families and children in particular.

many thanks again :thanks

If your kids are likely to want inflatables, li-los, beach shoes etc buy them at home. The LW shop is V expensive.

We were lucky to have good weather all week, bright sunshine every day and certainly warm enough to sunbathe but got cooler about 5 pm and the sun actually set at 6pm. evenings were warm enough with a light cardigan.

The pools and childrens paradise pools were cold, didnt stop us going in though and if you are going early october they might be a bit warmer. The sea was lovely and warm though

We bought nothing more than a newspaper in the shops on site. Either take your own inflatables or if you think you will be planning atrip to oludeniz (about £15) in a taxi then the shops are cheaper there. Make sure you take water shoes or crocs for the beach as it is quite stony and uncomfortable underfoot on the beach.

If it is your first visit you will love it there is nowhere like it, we have been 3 times and are back again twice this year and cannot wait.
