We were in LW from 4th June this year for 2 weeks, temperatures were between 28 and 38. We stayed in Residence so can't really comment on Village but the Air Con was set to 24 degrees when we first arrived. You can't pay to have it any lower as it is centrally controlled. We complained and were given a fan, so many people complained during our stay that the air con was put on early but even then it is only on during the afternoon and in the evening (turning off at midnight). Ok for us being able to throw off a cover but was difficult to keep a baby warm but not too hot when the room would change 6 degrees from midnight to 7am.
The Italian is al la carte so is the most expensive but they did do set menu dinners, I think they were about 25 euros per person. We ate in the Chinese and it was ok, only 7 euros each and it was lovely not to have to fill your own plate.
Anyone considering booking for the first time might want to know the following, again I can only speak for Residence and we were travelling with an 11 month old baby so our priorities may not be everyones.......
We booked a private transfer and were very glad we did, heard some horror stories of 2 1/2 hour bus journeys. we used Hamish McTurk who were fine but if you wanted to book a taxi direct with LW it is actually no more expensive.
We were disappointed with our Standard Double room, for a 4 star hotel that charges such a high price the rooms were very dated (not been changed in 25 years as far as I could see). Bug screen fell off in my hand, clattering to the floor. TV was very old and tempramental. carpet was old and stained and the vent inthe bathroom was blocked which made for a very stuffy room.
Staying in Residence was very convenient for all the main pools and facilities. Having a baby we had to nip back to our room a lot and if we had been in one of the village blocks far away it would have been a nightmare. Even the shortest of walks up that hill feels a lot in 38 degrees.
The Baby Club was pretty good although our son would not stay more that 30 minutes. The Baby club is from 6 months until they are 3 and old enough to join the kids clubs. The staff in the baby club did seem to like to have them all sat together and play with a few toys in the middle and then have a long sleep in their buggy. This is ok untill they are crawling and walking and don't want to sleep so much. I would say beware planning to put a 1 or 2 year old in as they will get bored and frustrated. The kids Clubs (from 3 upwards) onthe other hand looked fantastic and I have never seen such enthusiastic staff.
We had hoped to do some watersports during our stay but although they have dinghies to hire (5 euros an hour) this is by no means a sailing resort. In 2 weeks there was 1 day when there was just about enough wind to sail. Water skiing and jet ski's are very expensive, 65 euros for 30 minutes.
For mass catering on this scale the food is excellent but as with any hotel gets boring after 2 weeks.
During our stay the complex was only half full but felt busy enough and always had a good atmosphere. A lot of people arrived during our last 2 days and suddenly the marina restaraunt felt a bit like Butlins in the sun. Personally we would never go in high season having had a taster of people fighting for tables.
Unfortunatly our son was ill during our stay so we had to visit the doctor on site. No one ever wants to plan to use medical facilities while on holiday but I can report the doctor spoke excellent english, was brilliant with all the kids and having him on-site saved wasting a whole day getting a taxi to the nearest medical centre.
We may return in the future when our son is old enough to enjoy all the facilities and hopefully the rooms have been modernised. This is a fantastic resort for families but to all those people who return year after year I have to say there are many other hotels offering a similar type of holiday. Maybe I am just missing something or maybe I need to get used to holidaying with a child rather than with friends or partners.........
Finally if you are travelling with a baby and the hotel tell you food in the childrens resteraunt will be fine for them be warned nothing is pureed and when I asked was told it can't be. Buying jars there is 6 euros each and a half tub of formula is 14 euros so if you can, take your own. The paths, tracks and roads around the resort are very uneven so think carefully which buggy you take. Lightweight stroller is great for travelling and takes up less room in the hotel room but if we were going again I would take my 3 wheeler with suspension and sturdy wheels. Other people with large buggys just seemed to leave them outside the room and it never seemed to be problem..
Sorry this turned into war and peace, hope some of you find it helpful.
