Hello, im off to Turkey in 11 weeks, and was wondering what is best to take. We usually take the bulk of our money in sterling travellers cheques, but are the exchange rates over in Turkey bad for changing cheques?
I know some people take their debit cards, but i wouldnt want to use it as my main way of getting money, what happens if the cash point swallows your card? then your stuck.
I also take a credit card/debit card and have never had a problem getting cash out of a cash machine (except when there's a power cut!)
As i have said before on this thread my card was once swallowed up because there was a small split on it .No matter what i said to the bank they would give me any money ,even tho they got the card from the machine .If the wife did'nt have cash with her i was in deep trouble.I have never tried it again
I was actually wondering, as this is the first year with Nationwide whether we should contact the bank to tell them we are going in case they stop our cards. I did mention it at the branch but the girl just said "oh, that's ok" but didn't make a note of it. Should I phone somewhere?
I always contact my bank via internet banking every time i travel abroad to inform them of where i am. They always place a note on my file.
I don't have internet banking with nationwide.
I would just phone up their telephone banking, they will definetly help.
Ok thanks I will
I always find the best exchange rates is always gained from the ATM wherever you are. Just come back from Prague, rate 28.5, but from ATM got 30.5 with no charges.
J.
