We are going to Norther Cyprus in October flying via Larnace.
I have heard that local wine is an 'aquired taste!'. What is it like taking wine in to the country (from the south) and Raki out?
Also, do you have to pay a £10 entry visa same as the mainland?
Finally, has anybody been there over Xmas, if so, what is it like?
Many thanks
I've no first hand experience but everyone says everything is very strict on taking things in and out (and consider the Turkish are Muslim who aren't supposed to drink ???? eh ... hang on.. I've I got that wrong ???...?...now I've confused myself !)
do you have to pay a £10 entry visa
No
Dunno about wine, sorry. Although yes, taking anything over the green line is strictly limited (40 cigs for example)
as far as I'm aware there is not a visa charge for crossing the green line, there is a very strict customs embargo, so if you want to bring home booze/fags you had best get them on the way or at Larnaka before you depart, i must say i drink red wine wherever i go and some of the village stuff can be a bit harsh but you should be able to find a very acceptable local wine in the shops
