Hi there,
booked my holiday yesterday for 10 days in Side end of September, beginning of October and wondered if someone had any tips for excursions to do in that area. Me and my friend both don't drive, so it would need to be either organised trips or places easily reachable by Dolmus.
Many thanks for your advice.
Ta,

Last year we did an organised (T. Cook) trip to Manavgat. We went down the river on a boat, had lunch, got off at a beach, went back up the river, minibus to waterfalls, and then to the market. The boat trip was lovely, and we really wanted to visit the market again this year (too hot, and we were too busy doing nothing!). However, we felt the waterfalls were a bit disappointing.
We did hear quite a few people in the hotel complaining about trips that they had booked on the beach, so I'd be careful with that.
Hi there,
Without doubt the best trip from Side is to Cappadocia. However you need to do a two or three day trip and this might be too much out of a 10 day holiday. If you are interested in the ancient side of Turkey consider a trip to Aspendos or Perge. There is plenty of ruins in Side, including a theatre.
We loved side stayed in the old part of town in a lovely hotel right on the beach called very aptly the beach house - we are a couple in our late 40's and our favourite trips were - white water rafting, and a night time visit to see a show in Aspendos both were excellent value for money anda true turkish experience.
Once you get into Side town, (walk along beach, if you feeling fit) otherwise jump on Dolmus. Walk down main shopping street til you reach harbour, there is Temple of Apollo looking out across the bay, which is a good spot to take some pic's, few lovely little bars which are reasonably priced, and you can just sit and watch the world go by. Jump on the little tractor/train which rumbles up and down the street, it will take you to the town gates where the amphitheatre is, and you can have a wander round there, again worth a few clicks of the camera.
Aspendos is a good trip out, check the prices with the reps, the independent trip organisers in town or the guys on the beach (be wary of the spiel with some of these) and make your mind up.
Manavgat waterfalls is a lovely day out too, either organised or do it yourself. It's so easy to just get on Dolmus to Manavgat, and either go on one of the little river cruisers, or, just get on the Dolmus to the waterfalls, I would say go for the river though, more fun.
There is horse riding, there is a riding school near Manavgat/Sorgun, but check with your rep, they will be able to give you the full details.
Hope you have a brilliant holiday.
