definitely not worth it (unless you mean 120 egyptian pounds - if we had that at the end I'd consider it).
What about other stuff to do in Luxor? Anyone have any good recommendations? Are the temples 1 day jobs each or do they take longer?
sorry meant 120 GBP's not Egyptian.

Hi Mark
The temples are generally again just a few hours each and best done early morning or evening so as to avoid the extreme heat.

the west bank tour that costs about 300LE, is that spread out over a few days
No, this tour takes place in just the one day and takes a few hours to cover the various sites. There is an alternative to booking through a travel agent and that is to either find a reliable taxi driver (the hotel can arrange this) and get them to take you to the sites or you can get the ferry from Luxor to the West bank and get a taxi from there to the sites.
This works out cheaper but the disadvantage of this is that you have no Egyptologist to guide you, and in my opinion they are invaluable for your first visit.

I'd read it's just a short taxi ride to Luxor and Karnak temples, do we really need Jolley's for that? Or do they make it a much better experience?
I would suggest that you do these on your own without booking, they are soooo easy to get to and find your way about, just pay the few LE at the entrance.
I would recommend that you visit Luxor temple in the evening to get the best from the setting sun and subsequent floodlighting of the temple.
Here are some pictures to give you an idea http://travel.webshots.com/slideshow/570049876HQqArF;jsessionid=abcGaVxsdPmFCgdfwB4is
Karnak temple can be done during the day again very easily from Luxor without booking any excursion, there is a sound and light show at Karnak Temple in the evening which is worth going to see, again this can be booked easily independently, although you will have to check the times for the English narration.
Apart from the above you could consider taking the train to Aswan for a daytrip, if you do that I suggest a Felucca trip to Elephantine Island http://www.touregypt.net/elephantine.htm

There is also a seaplane that takes off from the Nile and does sightseeing trips, or a Camel ride from the west Bank.

I'm staying at Maritim Jollie, infact arrived here last night. Its a great hotel. Staff are friendly, grounds are extensive and beautiful, could easily spend my week in the hotel! You won't regret it.
Caught a local cab from the local airport but frankly found all the pushyness and locals surrounding us a nightmare. Would defo book transfers in hindsight.
On the upnote theirs a rep in the hotel library to organise excursions.
I have been quoted
West Bank - Classical Sights 250 pp (per person in egyption pounds)
West Bank - Tombs and Temples 250pp
East Bank - 250pp
Hot Air Ballooning - No longer available due to some accidents
Karnak Sound and Light 175pp
Nile Cruise to Denderah 450pp
All above include transfers in air conditioned taxis, entrances and guides. Nile cruise includes lunch. Personally think its a good price and saves alot of hassle especially for a first timer.
You can hire a cab to take you out and about in luxor through the hotel
this is
4 hours - 400 egyption
8 hours - 600 egyption. Bit expensive but worth it imho
On last thing you will get hassle whenever you leave the hotel, just say 'La Shukran' no thank you.
cheers, having a great time. You're right about the hassle but managing fine. Gonna organise a West Bank Trip tomorrow
