And it's been in the press - so more free publicity for Michael O'Sneery!

In my opinion, I'm sure Manchester Airport will not suffer from Ryanair's departure and can concentrate on servicing more professional carriers and their public.

Correct - Jet2 have just announced an increase in routes for next year, Easyjet have quietly increased theirs (including one to Munich which has scared Lufthansa in dropping their prices) and Germanwings arrive in October to provide a Cologne service which will be an alternative to Ryanairs badly located Weeze. Seems like the competition don't share O'Leary's views about MAN - or then again, is it competition which worries him???

This lot are just unbelievable, they blame the government for APD , airports for charging to cover their costs while hiking up their own , i suspect the truth is that the flights from Oct 1st were not full enough, would any serious business cut out 90% of its trade over a minimal charge? if the flights were full..ish then thats a lot of business to give up especially in these difficult times.
I think their constant self publicity seeking has highlighted their unrealistic charges for extras, the "joke" about the toilet tax hit a nerve with the public that it wouldn't surprise them if this happened. i think that some of the public just don't trust them , and its disgusting that they just abandon 600 workers , and passengers who have already booked over a charge of £3, i know the passengers will be offered alternative flights or refunds but what an inconvenience to them over the petty whim of ryanairs management, they do themselves no favours because when people book a flight now they must be wondering if they're going to spit their dummy out again. The competition faces the same problems, they just get on with it knowing that offering good value and good service will get them through and stand them in good stead for the future.

I agree with you andy66. Very valid points and for the sake of £3 it seems thousands of Ryanair customers will face disruption.

Sadly, the great British public continue to book with this airline attracted by their unrealistic headline price. When will they learn that Ryanair pays no respect to it's customers.

Ryanair pays no respect to it's customers.

Sadly that's all too true ............. and today's Telegraph has a most-unnecessary and sickly article asking M O'Sneery to 'spare a thought for all us second home owners in France'.

BS to say the least.

I certainly will not sing the praises of Ryan Air and have only used them for two flight sectors in the past few years however it should be remembered that thier Business Model is certainly different to most operators out there.

The carrier retains a position where they expect airports to convince them why they should operate out of any given airport and strongly negotiate favourable terms. Ryan air also survive quite happily by expoliting new routes and dropping them should they prove to be not acceptable to the carrier. It is also one of the reasons why Ryan air use less "well known" airports.

It should be remembered that British Airways (through various guises) have effectively walked away from most UK airports concentrating on services through London. Manchester was not exempt from the "nations carrier" action.

Ryan Air operate significantly more flights from the UK regions than BA and will continue to do so - on their terms.

Also I find it hard to believe that any where near 600 employees are being effected. They have already or are in the process of drawing down check in facilities and the aircraft that were or are based in Manchester amounts to a few.

They shall also be reducing by 40% services from Stansted over the coming winter as they feel it is more viable to park up aircraft. Many charter and low cost carriers do the same - or lease aircraft during winter periods.

You get what you pay for with Ryanair.

I have had flights to holiday destinations several times and saved hundreds of pounds. Being retired it can make the difference between having a holiday or no holiday.

Flights from East Midlands to Tenerife in December (£90 pp) and Lanzarote in March (£75 pp)

Well done Ryanair :cheers

I'm always a little confused when people make this statement. Yes, you are only paying for transportation from A to B and in most cases that is what you get. But on the occasions when flights are cancelled or delayed the uncaring attitude that staff from this airline routinely project is to many people totally unnaceptable. I understand problems can happen, they do with most airlines but most airlines handle them in an acceptable manner. Ryanair, who have one of the worst reputations in the airline industry don't. Whether you pay 1 or 100pounds you should expect to be treated with respect which is something that Ryanair don't seem to understand the meaning of.

Loss of 600 jobs due to FR pulling out of MAN?

Really?

Sounds familiar to when FR said that over 1000 new jobs would be created at LBA as a result of 2 based aircraft and their new routes.

An exaggeration of the truth one thinks.

Just wanted to post that I flew ryan air for the first time two weeks ago from Liverpool to Gerona and was quite satisfied with the service we received.

Online checkin worked well as did dropping off bags at Liverpool, although we did also opt for fast track security as the queues were huge

We booked priority booking and this avoided the scrum both ways flying although I must say, they were more organised at Gerona with two seperate queues for priority and other.

The luggage restrictions did not cause any problems although I did see quite a few people leaving suitcases etc behind!

On the plane apart from the front emergency seats they left four or five rows where you could not sit - to balance out the plane!! That was a bit worrying! The amount of last minute people trying to sit on those was so funny to watch!

The prices on board were extortionate I must say, especially with four kids! £2.80 for a bottle of water, they are havin a laugh! Thankfully I had brought all our own stuff with us after reading some of the posts on here.

Overall, not a bad experience, both flights were on time, seats were comfy enough and staff were pleasant.

I would definitely use them again. :tup

I see its not only Ryanair that are blaming the government for APD and for airports charging to cover their costs.

I DEMAND that O'Leary and Ryanair stop doing this right now - it's soooo unfair.......

Offering me return flights to Dublin for 2p when he knows I have no holiday allowance left at work.
If he hadn't tricked me into going to Ibiza for £7.50 return in April, I would have had some holidays left !

John

Edit: Correct flight prices

Crikey John, i think i would be demanding my employer to give me a better holiday allowance if you've run out already!
Lets be honest, everyones cutting their capacity because no-ones booking flights like they were a year ago , the budget airlines relied a lot on people taking odd weekend breaks etc or an extra holiday and the cheap prices reeled them in , but now people just don't have that spare money , even if they can fly for nothing they can't afford a hotel stay and other costs with being away from home. I think its a bit of a cop-out to say APD is the cause when it wasn't being used as reasons a year or so ago , neither were airlines going too overboard about airport fees. I think the budget airlines are starting to look at more popular destinations like the canaries for example where the charter airlines have a monopoly on the flights there, and looking for prices today for Lanzarote next july the charters have an increase of 15 to 20% on this years prices , easyjet don't have a price up yet and ryanair are a fair bit cheaper but not really the flight times i desire, i might be tempted though :yikes . I think its fair to say flights are going to be a lot more expensive next year and the airlines are scrambling around to grab any bit of the market , the big airports and popular destinations is where the money is and they're all focusing on that. Hopefully there will be big Xmas sales!

I've run out already and that's with 'buying' an extra week back out of my salary :yikes

Must admit Dublin would be greedy as we booked flights to Ibiza for half term on Sunday night. Yes, you guessed it - Ryanair. We jumped at the offer of £4.99 to fly out on 26th October. Only booked the outward and looking at returns which are horribly expensive at the moment. Problem is that a lot of flights have stopped because of the end of the season, it's the end of half term and all the reps and seasonal workers are trying to get home.
Still a £20 punt on the flights out seemed justified - they are currently £148.00.

Now back to Skyscanner to see how we can get home. Exciting times........

Just booked Luton to Reus return for 2p inclusive of taxes using Visa Electron even though the front screen shows the lowest fare as being £9.99 each way and also booked Dublin for the same price.

Your can also get Girona for 1p each way, even though they show this as being a minimum of £29.03 each way :que

If the day arrives when Ryanair cancel my flight and bump me onto the next days flight and I have to get a hotel at my own expense then to be honest, the amount of money I have saved by using them, I still don't think I've had a bad deal out of them.

I just don't go along with the 'I hate Ryanair possee'. I don't find them rude, the flights are normally on time, the leg room is as good as any other low cost or charter airline and I only book if the flights are dirt cheap.

They are a bit like the Tesco of airlines, the service they offer is actually quite good but because they are one of the big boys, everyone loves to hate them.

When and where from were the Girona flights ?
My father in Law is getting Costa Brava withdrawal symptoms - not found him a cheap flight there since April ! Having said that, he did go 3 times in 4 months :)

My disabled mother has never been reduced to tears by Tesco checkout staff walking away and leaving her unseen to at the checkout before then coming back and telling her that she'll have to wait outside, so as to make room for the new customers coming in and before they can finish putting her shopping through the till. Nor have they ever tried to charge her more just because she is disabled, or made her phone up in advance to check how many disabled people are already in the store and if they've already got 4 disabled customers doing their shopping, telling her that she can't buy her groceries at Tesco until another day. The equivalent of all these have happened to us with Ryanair and not just as one-offs.

This is why I feel justified in being a fully paid up member of the 'I Hate Ryanair Posse'. Paying dirt cheap prices doesn't make it acceptable to treat disabled passengers like dirt. Furthermore, the responses I have received when I've tried to complain about their treatment of her means that O'Leary is never going to receive another penny of ours. It might cost us more to fly with other airlines but we have decided that if that is the price we have to pay to ensure that she is treated with respect and allowed to maintain her dignity then so be it. We shouldn't have to do this but I will not subject her to this sort of humiliation from Ryanair ever again.
