hi all.
my hubby and i are comring to rhodes 9th sept, first wedding anniversary celebratory trip. we are 28 and 27 years old.
we are staying at Lindos Blu Hotel just outside lindos and very excited to be coming over. it was only booked a week ago so we need to get up to date on what rhodes has to offer fast.
we've been to greece before, kefalonia in 2006 and just cannot wait ot be amongst the the lovely greek people again.
we are hoping to chill out mainly after a very busy year but we are there for 10 days, so if you could recommend nice relaxing day trips, great restaurants / bars etc we would be most grateful!
i hope i survive heat etc as i'm currently 8weeks pregnant....shouldn't be a problem...
A MUST DO TRIP is Rhodes OLD TOWN. Go by bus or boat from Lindos. Also I recommend the island of Symi. This would mean an early start from Lindos as boats leave from Mandraki harbour Rhodes Town @ 9AM. Return is about 6.pm. Do NOT book any trips via a rep. Instead use any agency in Lindos. Much cheaper. It is still very hot here on Rhodes. Just below 90F today. Earlier in the month it was 120F. On Tuesday @ 11am !!!! on my lounger on our patio it was 95F
Not sure about boat trips if you are suffering at all from morning sickness, I did one at 9 weeks and was green from the moment I got on! Otherwise couldn't agree more about Symi, its a really lovely little island. Lindos is a great place for your last holiday when its just the two of you as its got lots of nice little places to eat and is quite intimate, perfect for an anniversary. Have a lovely time.
We stayed in Lindos in June and fell in love with Rhodes in general. We did the Symi trip and didnt find it too bumpy but it is a lot of time on the boat for not very much time on the beautiful island.
There are a couple of travel agents in Lindos offering tours and we found them to be cheap and well run. The Rhodes town at night trip was worth doing and when there we took a trip around the harbour at dusk on a boat which was lovely (and only 12e for 2 adults and a child).
As others have said Symi and the Old Town are not to be missed. As for restaurants and bars there's not really anything in the immediate vicinity but a taxi ride into Lindos will give you a vast choice. There are many different bars in Lindos and each with their own atmosphere. Some of my favourites are Captain's House (lovely chilled out feel), Yannis Bar (great for people watching), Lindos By Night (for the views) and Antika (uber cool and great cocktails). As for restaurants, the best in my opinion are Ambrosia, To Kamariko, Olympia, Dionysos, Broccolino, Med East and Stefany's. Ambrosia would be a great place to celebrate an anniversary as it's quite small, intimate and a bit more special/upmarket.
A friend of mine has a map of Lindos with several of the bars and restaurants listed, if you'd like a copy send me a private message with your email address and i'll send you a copy.
That would be Babs.
Indeed it is
