No it's not true. My wife does not get hassled (in that way) while we are in Turkey and I've never heard of it being a problem. You do get a bit of hassle from shop owners and in the markets. A firm no thank you will normally suffice but I find the banter with these guys is great. Please do not let this put you off what is a very friendly and welcoming country.

This has come up many times on this forum. These magazines really do have something to answer for, always giving bad press to Turkey. I have also read similar stories about Tunisia but you have obvioulsy not had any problems there. Don't believe everything you read, they are well know for exagerating and being selective with their facts.

Please don't worry. Although these things happen sometimes, they are just sensationalist reporting as are most of the other stories in these magazines. You will find that Turkish people are the most friendly, genuine people you could meet on holiday.

people will try to get you in their restaurants and shops but your wife will not get any unwanted male hassle while she is with you. Turkish men do love to turn on the charm sometimes but with a married woman it will all be very decent and friendly. They will chase pretty, scantily dressed women but don't most men do that anyway ;) To a married woman they will show respect.

I am married to a Turkish man and I lived in a Turkish resort for a few years so I know what they are like. I have never been hassled while out alone. Trust me you will have a great time :sun2

I have been to Turkey 15 times, and a lot could be said about British women and the way the behave but I would probably be slated if I said what I thought on a web site, oh and I'm female encase anyone thought different, go and enjoy your holiday as its a lovely place nd the Turkish people are lovely

I would echo what fin has said. The Turkish people are lovely - incredibly friendly and welcoming and love to show genuine hospitality. I've never felt threatened or hassled there - in fact, I probably feel safer walking around in Turkey, even on my own, than I would in this country.

I regularly go on holiday with my friends as a group or in two's, I've been to Turkey (albeit not Marmaris) many times both with my husband and my friends. My husband goes to Tunisia every year to play golf with his mates and it's the one place he's absolutely adamant he would put his foot down about me going without him.....all down to the hassle and attitude of some Tunisians towards Western women.

So I guess that says it all from our perspective. The Turkish men are pretty attentive and can turn on the charm, but a polite "leave me be" suffices if it goes too far. I'm off there in a week for a weeks holiday just me and a few girlfriends and I have no worries whatsoever :D

We love Turkey and its people, there are prob more blondes go there than brunettes lol what with highlights etc we have never seen any woman being hassled by turkish men in a sexual way at all, there were single ladies staying at our apartments and never once did they say anything about being hassled, its an old myth im afraid and its a shame some wont let it go, have a great holiday .

I also visit Tunisia quite a lot as well as Turkey,Im surprised you love it there! The Tunisian men cant keep their paws to themselves, much less hassle in Turkey.

Hi. I have two blonde (although I don't think hair colour matters in any country, including turkey) daughters aged 9 and 15. Yes, the older one does get attention, but its never been a problem. She hasn't ever been made to feel uncomfortable, and if she did I'm sure she'd be able to deal with it. She is sensible, she doesn't encourage the flirting. She will talk, smile and chat, but doesn't flirt (with all of them lol :rofl ), and she also makes sure she is reasonably covered up (at least shorts and t-shirts when off the beach and not around the hotel). Behaving like this seems to have gotten her a lot of respect from the turkish guys. To be honest, I also feel that they tend to treat girls better in turkey.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that there won't be any problems unless the flirting behaviour is encouraged. The women you read about often only have themsleves to blame.

My daughter has literally just walked in the house, and I've asked her opinion. She says she feels safer walking around in turkey than she does her, and that turkish guys are mostly more respectful that the english. She can't wait to go back in July, and will be going (without us :cry ) when we decide she is old enough to go away with friends.

Although having said all of this, I have never been to Marmaris so don't know what it is like there.
