hi all, off to playa del carmen in march and was just wondering how long the ferry crossing was to cozumel ? problem i've got is that our 9yr old daughter gets soooo sick on boats ( and I mean within 10 minutes, even on a calm sea !!) however, i'm always hopefull that with each year she may have grown out of it !! it would be a shame to go all that way and not go to cozumel, but if its a long ferry ride, i may have to re-think.
any replies much appreciated,
juby
Hi juby - It's around 40 mins, but usually a nice crossing. There are refreshments etc on the ferries, & some have entertainment. Have a look at these links
Thanks a lot Helen, great websites !
another thing to do,to add to my list
Have a great time tracy, looking forward to your trip report !
never ever done a trip report, but i will try my best
tracy - doesn't have to be full of details, just a general idea of what you did, what you liked, & would recommend etc. Just the sort of thing you'd like to read, if you were reviewing the place yourself.
have fun !
tracy
By the way, the water is normally calmer in the morning than it is in the afternoon.
Cheers
Keith
Any reccomendations to do on cozumel ? I believe its a good place to snorkal ? haven't done this since we went to cancun in 1999 !!!
cheers,
juby
Juby it's best to buy a single ticket (a return doesn't save you anything) as the ferry company's alternate the crossings and they will only accept their own tickets. Otherwise you may find you have a 2 hr wait when returning.
Denny
Juby - its a brilliant place for snorkelling. We went on an official trip with Thomson. Did the swimming with dolphins in the sea, sea lion act etc. I can't at the moment remember the name of the place on Cozumel that we went to. If somone on here doesn't know, it would be worth you going to the welcome meeting, just to see what its called. You wouldn't neccessarily have to book, as you could do the trip yourself, although it was a little way after getting off the ferry. You'd probably have to get a taxi the other side. There's plenty of touristy shops, little cafes & bars.
The snorkelling is great but if you went in 1999 you may see a bit of a difference because the reef was damaged in the hurricane in 2007 (or was it 2006?) but there are still plenty of fish and coral to see so you shouldn't be disappointed. We did the 3 reef trip and booked it ourselves at the shopping centre at the start of 5th Avenue (again, negotiating a good price)
Denny, as I said it depends on how busy they are as to whether they will negotiate or not. We heard of people getting single fares for as little as $8 each way because they weren't busy. You are right in saying that a return ticket is the same price as 2 singles and you may be better buying singles, but if you get a good price and DO buy a return ticket then you just need to time your activities to coincide with the return ferry time.
Cheers
Keith
Come to that any hotel or resort info at all would be great and anyone who has been in May an overview of the weather?
Thanks
