in brief traveling within Europe your passport only needs to be valid for the trip BUT most tour operators/airlines will specify in their terms either 3 or 6 months validity [after return date] and will deny boarding if you do not have this.

Fabsec54, Its usually a requirement of the country that you are visiting, for your passport to have a minimum expiry date on departure.
