Thanks Digby. I was very lucky and managed to get my op quite quickly after being referred. Actually it should have been a couple of weeks ago but it was cancelled because the hospital lost my notes. I do hope you get yours soon, as it is horrid having something like that hanging over you

Hi all, it would appear I spoke too soon!! I'd like to say 'you aren't going to believe this' but unfortunately, in view of the present state of most things in this country, you probably will believe it. We got to the hospital at 8 a.m. this morning, my son and daughter having taken the day off. They left me there and were to be phoned when I was ready for collection. I and four other patients were taken to a room and had eye-drops put in our eyes before being examined again and various measurements taken. The drops were repeated at regular intervals and we were offered tea and coffee. At 11.30 I was called into another room, where the staff nurse informed me that my operation had been cancelled as, once again, they could not find my notes and could not proceed without them. She apologised profusely and said they had been looking for them since Friday but hadn't told me previously as they hoped they would turn up. Bearing in mind that my previous appointment had been cancelled for the same reason I was not impressed and should have thought they would have been looking for them from the time of the previous fiasco and had plenty of time to either find them or phone me last week to cancel. We're all spitting feathers as you can imagine.

I am so sorry you have been messed about like this. That is outrageous, and how incompetent that bunch of staff are.

I am so sorry to here that you have been messed about yet again, especially after having to get the family to take the day off.
The admin incompetence is one thing but the fact that they didn't have the decency to inform you not to attend that is a disgrace

Aslemma, what can one say? I am so sorry this has happened again. I can barely believe the story. What on earth has happened to our hospitals when this sort of thing happens? A big disappointment!

Aslemma thats awful losing your notes not once but twice thats really not acceptable . Also so stressing we prepare pourselves for it and then somethinglike this happens . Ok cataract operations are routine for some , but to actually put the drops in your eyes without reading your notes could have been a bad mistake . Lets hope they get is sorted now before your next adventure , which will hopefully be a more relaxing and less painful one .

I'm certainly p****d of about it, as not only did three of us waste a day, but it obviously deprived someone else of having their eyes done that morning. One thing's for certain, I shall ask for their guaranty that my notes are available before I accept any more appointments with Southend Hospital!!

I haven't got round to composing my letter of complaint yet but I assure you I WILL.:evil:

Make it a very strong one Aslemma! Keeping you hanging around for 3½ hours before telling you is outrageous.

Ring out the bells and let joy be unconfined!! I had a phone call today to say they've finally found my notes and I've got a new date for 22nd January. They could have done it earlier but I wanted to get Christmas over first and also have an afternoon appointment rather than 8 a.m. The lady who rang me was lovely and admitted she'd have been furious. I said I would still write a letter of complaint and she agreed that I needed to do so. Thanks for all your support and sympathy.

Aslemma. Great news at last. You will be seeing Tunisia with bright eyes in April. Excellent.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas as I did. I am just glad to be back in my comfort zone, sitting in front of my computer and on Holiday Truths. Went to my daughter's on Christmas day and although I knew that all Mods etc. were on holiday I still had a wee look before I left and again after I got back. Some people (my hubby) think this is an obsession,but if it is it's a harmless one and very educational where holidays are concerned. I am sure some would agree.

totally agree with you Digby about this site being educational you wont go far wrong by spending a few hours on here researching .

I had a very nice Christmas, plus three family birthdays in th same week - eldest son on Christmas Eve, mine on 27th and daughter's today. I've no more in the pipeline until 2nd Jan which is one of my grandsons!!!

Oh yes, the birthdays, a bit of a pain so close to Christmas. My grandson is today, my grandaughter a week today and my daughter days after that. Bad family planning!

My ex-husband's birthday was in March.
