Hi Jill,we went to Spain,Cyprus and Turkey last year and in my opinion Turkey was the cheapest. We are going back this year, not to Marmaris as it was a little busy for us,but to Icmeler where we went on a dolmus. It was our son's birthday 2 days before we went so we took his girlfriend and her parents, who came too,for a meal one evening. There were 6 of us and we spent just over £70 for a 4 course meal,8 bottles of efes,6 soft drinks and a birthday cake.Trips were also much cheaper than in Paphos, boat trip, with entertainment but no drinks or food for four and a half hours in Cyprus, about £70,in Turkey with food and local drinks, just over £30 for about six hours, that's for 3 adults.

This year there are only the two of going to Turkey ,2 weeks,AI,in August,4* for just over £1700,we can afford to eat out whenever we want but know that we don't have to carry cash down to the pool for soft drinks,we can also have drinks in the evening if we decide to eat in the hotel.Hope you get sorted soon,T.

Well turkey is certainly not as cheap as it used to be but it is still very good value for money. It depends on which resort you go to as to how cheap things are though. If you like eating where the locals eat and going somewhere with a more traditional feel then you will get much better value than if you go somewhere that caters more for British and other western tourists.

I don't know how Dalyan compares to other resorts as I haven't visited for many years but I'm sure someone can tell you.

I usually go to the Bodrum Peninsula and the prices between resorts varies a good deal. Somewhere like Gumebt or Bitez has some very reasonably priced restaurants if you look around but others that put the prices up for tourists, whereas if you go to somewhere like Ortakent the majority of visitors are Turkish and so you will find it much cheaper to eat out, the prices there are very good as most of the restaurants cater for Turkish guests rather than Western ones. Ortakent also has a beautiful sandy beach, waterside bars and is close to Bodrum for the weekly market and where you can easily travel around the Penisula.

There are plenty of resorts like that around and I'm sure someone can recommend somewhere in another area if you don't fancy Bodrum.

I hope this helps

Dalyan and surrounding areas are beautiful and I'm sure you will enjoy your holiday there. As others have said prices have risen in Turkey but you can still find quaint little places where they cater for Turks. Whatever happens it will be cheaper than Europe. We went to Spain and Switzerland last year - phew our wallets took a battering!! We also visited Egypt which I think was a little cheaper. I didn't feel so comfortable there though, probably to do with the armed guards on the tour buses!
I almost always holiday in Datca, we had 8 weeks there last year. I have written about it here before so just search Datca. It is a Turkish holiday harbour town and so does not really cater so much for europeans.

We went to Dubrovnik in Croatia in October, it was beautiful but a lot more expensive than Turkey. Although of course different areas away from the city are likely to be cheaper.
We have considered Egypt for a beach holiday before, but just not keen on the fact that most of the beach resorts are purpose built and we have the impression you could be anywhere in the world.
Generally the trips you can go on in Turkey are fantastic value for money between £12 to £15 a day on a barbeque boat trip! The Turkish are also excellent hosts and know how to look after you!

As i've told others on here, Turkey is as cheap or expensive as you want it to be for eating out. Ask in your hotel for non-touristy restaurants. I have looked at Goldtrail Holidays departing around 10th July, for two weeks in 2/3 star, because I don't know what part of the country you are in, here are some prices(per person):- Gatwick to Bodrum area £303, to Dalaman area £297. Birmingham to both areas £307. Manchester to Bodrum £327, to Dalaman £317. Olu Deniz, Hisaronu/Ovacik are the resorts I would recommend to you. Fethiye is close by with its fantastic weekly market. Saklikent Gorge is a dolmus ride away. There are boat trips. Ephesus is a two day trip if you want archaeology(check out local tour operators, they are cheaper than your holiday firm.

I love Dalyan and always finish our holiday there by staying the last 3 or 4 days.

Plus side its near Dalaman airport and you dont have the long journey that you do have with other resorts.

The scenery is lovely and it still has a Turkish feel that a lot of the other resorts have lost.
There are lots of lovely restaurants along the river with view looking over the Rock tombs.

I personally wouldnt travel to the beach everyday as I find the boat boring after a while, but the beach is lovely. You can get the bus which doesnt take so long.

We always hire a boat just for the two of us it costs about £40/£50 and includes lunch I would highly recommend it.

Not sure about the Asur having safety deposit boxes but I would be very surprised if they didnt. Not been in a hotel or apartment yet in Turkey that didnt have them.
Unless the Asur is open all year round you might have to wait for a reply to your email.

Have a lovely holiday what ever you decide

Lynn
