We've all heard the horror stories of people buying or getting jewellery made in Goa, then returning home after the holiday, having it valued only to find that the item is fake & no way near worth what you paid for it. It doesn't happen to EVERYONE but there have been cases.
So, a little advise which I hope will help.
If you have jewellery made in Goa, take it to another jewellers over there & say you had it made in Thailand (or some where like that) a couple of years ago & ask them to value it also tell them that you want something similar made. If it turns out (god forbid) that you have been conned, better to sort it out in Goa before your return home.
Im sure i read this same post on TA but thanks anyway
Would you not agree that the more people know about it, the better.
Just thought I'd share the info on this forum too.
Absolutly hunny Sorry if it sounded sarcastic It wasnt intended. I just had a deja vu moment
deja vu moment ... LOL ... I think we all have those from time to time.
The value of gold and most gems are similar across the globe, it is the cost of the workmanship, the retailers mark up and overheads that are cheap in India.
If you have a piece of jewellery made in Goa and you like it, it will be priceless, if you don't like it or you are not happy with it in any way don't buy, particularly if it is your last day, leave it to next time
A few years ago there was a very famous chain of jewellers in the UK until the owner admitted he had only been selling rubbish for years and getting away with it and even at a good jewellers the item will only be worth only 25% of the asking price due to the high overheads here
Imagine paying £850 for a gold/diamond ring, & then finding out later that it was only gold plated.
I know a number of people, myself included who have purchased items and had them valued to be far more than what they payed. Although if im happy with the item ive bought im not greedy and dont expect it to be worth loads more.
If im buying jewellry i do research it first no snap decisions. I then get recommendations from trusted people who have purchased in previous visits. (not someone who ive just met over a few beers I tend to buy from the same jeweller.
At the end of the day there are good and bad everywhere and i think unfortunatly when brits fly on holiday a certain amount of common sense gets left at home. Probably to many kingfishers
From walking down unlit roads at night to handing over large amounts of cash for items of dubious origins. Think about your purchases carefully and hopefully you will get a decent purchase.
