Hi,

yes - I read that the roof has to come off as well.....

There is the Didim Beach Resort directly opposite and actually 'on the beach' but apparently thier jetty has to be pulled down - planning again.
Pretty much the same standard as the GoS - plenty of reviews around for it.

There is also palm wings at the other end of the resort which seems to be a little higher rated by most. Others AIs around the town but I would check the reviews before you accept any changes.

Good Luck

Hi all, we are due to holiday at the above from the 3rd-17th may.now i know there is all sorts of major upheaval going on,pools, amphitheatre, football pitch, bars, surrounding walls, and the icing on the cake(pardon the pun)the entire roof has to come off.all down to some crazy council i believe, now i,ve been back to thomsons, and they assure me it will be back to it,s 5* rating,(3*)in uk.something in the back of my brain tells me this is just not going to happen, thomsons also tell me the next update on the building work is not until the end of feb, beginning march..which happens as coincidence a week after i pay the rest of my holiday cost...don,t get me wrong i don,t want money back i just want my holiday..i asked them to just swap my hotel to the palm wings resort,no more worries.no came the reply your hotel will be in 5* condition by the time we get there, thomsons say they have got upto 7 days before we fly to inform us of change of hotel is this right?you can imagine my stress levels at the mo..or am i just panicking for nothing.the last thing i need is to arrive and the holiday rep is standing there with a tent as i get off the coach lol.but seriously folks if any body has got any news update please keep me informed,....yours the purplerainbow...sully.. ;)

Hi Sully

I have got some 'locals' trying to get some photos of the current state of the hotel. Will try and get them posted so then maybe you can use them to force Thomsons hand.

Will let you know when they are there.

The latest reports from someone local say that the football pitch, snack bar/toilets/games room building, and the amphitheatre have all been pulled down.
Apparently, work has stopped at the moment because of problems with the contractors paperwork.

I would like to point out that the date of demo photo should read 2010 not 2020 :(

The two photos are viewed from almost directly 'opposite' perspectives. The one from last summer looking from our room over the snack bar towards the road. The other is taken from the road looking towards the hotel.

A couple more photos now uploaded showing the demolished boundry walls around the garden area.

Some new photos of the demolition (that seems to have restarted) over on Tripadvisor.

Reports (unconfirmed) say that they have started filling in the pool with earth :(

Will post a link to the photos if that's allowed - mods ???

Do not have permission to replicate the photos on here.

Another update - again unconfirmed - is that they are going to build a new pool to the side of the hotel where there is currently a small car park.

We shall see........

Has anyone been here recently? I'm due to go in August and now slightly worried if anyone knows what is happening I'd be really grateful.

Hi

The latest reports are that they have now started 'digging the pool out again' and the boundry walls have been rebuilt :really

Apparently, the hotel is planning to be up and running for the start of the season in May so you should be fine by August :tup

Apparently the pool area has been cleared and it looks like they are ready to fill the pool.

I was just wondering if anyone had been to the Garden of Sun yet this year? I would like to know how the building work is getting on. Does anyone know if it is finished and if the pool is open again. I am going in August with two young children, a teenager and two adults in their early 20's so I really need to know if everything will be ok or if I'm going to need to try and get the accommodation changed. I'd be grateful for any help.
