My nephew works with customs at Glasgow airport and he tells me that they get regular communications from other countries when anything shows up on their scanners.Having stopped smoking over twenty years ago and my wife never has we only ever take 200 for one of my daughters .I have seen plenty people who have been stopped and the fags confiscated .We came through Glasgow early doors one morning when customs had hold of a family .One of the cases contained nothing but sleeves of cigs ,His wife an two wee kids were crying their eyes out .I dont think anything is worth that.

He had really 'taken the p' on how many he brought back and customs were waiting for him - no doubt about that.
His son, who was about 8 at the time, offered to help the customs officer count how many packs there were and stacked them up on the desk as they got removed from the cases. His dad was none too pleased

A long document and about three quarters way through it talks of economic effects of smoking. Goes on to say that approx 53% of rolling tobacco is imported illegally and at a cost to HMC and R of £3billion per annum.
The report carries on with the statement that lots more officers are to be recruited to stamp this out!
wether they mean at the airports/ ports etc with the normal tourist and his/her extra 200 fags or if it just means " commercial" smuggling enterprises I have no idea.
you have been warned!!
Thankfully my wife and i gave up the dreaded weed 11yrs ago, when our youngest was born,as we wanted to be around to see him grow up..but i,m not going to be a hypocrite and condemn people for smoking, the reason i posted this thread, was to see what i could legally bring in to uk,for family and friends, and not for gain,as we had never been to a non eu country, but as an aside maybe if our government did not thrash the british public in taxes, maybe people would not smuggle...just a thought...can,t wait for altinkum in may...maybe bump into some of you..kind regards the purplerainbow..sully
Can anyone confirm that the tobacco bought at dalaman airport is authentic and not fake. I bought golden virginia at dalaman as they had run out on the flight out and did not want to take the chance of them not having any again on the way back. However the packs that i bought at dalaman look different to what i had already got at home from a previous flight. They look like the an old design. Hope they are the real thing !!

I don't smoke, but duty free in the departures area my mum has always found to be genuine products. If you purchase goods in resort, it's hit and miss if it's genuine or not but it's a little easier to tell these days as they're required to have the orange duty paid sticker on them. No sticker, the goods aren't genuine.
Darren
just dont buy it in the resorts
