No one doubts that there are many nicer, cleaner places to holiday in. Most of us I'm sure have been to many of them. However this doesn't explain why the lure of Goa remains so strong. I can't explain it, yet have been to some lovely resorts all over Thailand, Mexico, Sri Lanka as well as some closer to home.
Dunno why, but I for one would really miss it if I were to never go to Goa again. I am not alone in this, because this Goa forum is so popular on this site, as well as on TA.

Don't think any of us really understand what it is that draws us back Moles but I do know what you mean and yes I would miss Goa too. I seem to swing between hating the place one minute and loving it the next which I guess is because the place (and it's barmyness) can be both very endearing and yet highly frustrating (and all in the blink of an eye). ;)

During the past 4 years or so I have often thought of going somewhere else for a change of scenery but it still hasn't happened and we continue to offer ourselves up like lambs to the slaughter for all the visa hassles etc., I do wonder though just what it will take (in our case) for the straw to break the camels back :think

I don't know what you think but those words from the VFS somehow seem more significant to me now than ever before:

You may apply for a 6 month or 1 year tourist visa = doesn't mean you will get what you apply for

and

however please note that granting of visa and visa duration remains solely at the discretion of the High Commission of India.
= so if we want to change the rules without warning then we will and you might still not get what you wanted :think

As you said tookatuktuk - we won't know until we apply :que

It is a sad fact that already some people have reached the point where they have had enough. We go in March but I am going to monitor the situatuion closely as regards next year.

Hi does anybody actually know anyone who,s been issued with a 3 months visa or is it just hearsay or maybe the next installment in the Indian goverment (why dont we wreck tourism) saga :rofl.slan(cheers)

I've just filled in my online application for our visas. We need to apply by post as we live in N. Ireland. I didn't realise that all postal applications now have to go to Hayes and I selected London, Victoria as my place of application. I went back in to modify it but it won't let me do so. Has anyone else done this? I was hoping it would be ok if I just post it on to the Hayes address and they will process it.
Thanks
Gail

I am sure it will be fine if you post to Hayes - however I would double check by calling/ emailing the help centre. You don't want to take any risks were passports are concerned also they are quite militant when it comes to their rules!

I picked this comment up from Nikkie's post on this thread (page 57 on 25th Jan):

Just had a lettr today from our tour agent (JLM), stating that there are new rules applicable now, stating that no-one can re-enter India without a 2 month gap. Good for JLM, better late than never. We go on Thursday, just as well our last visit ended on 29th November, or we would have been in shtook, with no time to go and plead for permission to re-enter.
How many didn't know before receiving these letters and are now having to lose their holiday?

If I lost my holiday due to this new rule I doubt that I would ever consider returning to India. Consequently, I empathise with any one else who finds themselves in any situation where things have gone pear shaped through no fault of their own.
In reality I doubt I would have booked two holidays to Goa within such a short period. However, this this doesn't just mean a visit to Goa there are other places to visit in India too.
A last minute deal might have tempted me previously but it might not now if I am unable to go so the advantage of having a current VISA is lost.
I wonder if the tour companies will find it more difficult to shift these late deals ?

Yet more companies will pull out/cut down on flights/holidays pushing the price of your Goa holiday up.
There was a time when i couldn't see beyond Goa i thought it was fantastic....no more.

And then this reply to a letter that the poster above let us know about :think

Is everyone still being issued with 6 month tourist visas? Or has it changed to 3 month visas now?

Hmm, I wanted to know this, because I've read conflicting 'stories'. So, I asked VFS about the 3 month thing - and got the following reply on 2nd Feb.

Quote:
Thank you for your query,

We have not received any such information from the High Commission; you may apply for the 6 month or 1 Year (maximum stay 180days per visit) however please note that granting of visa and visa duration remains solely at the discretion of the High Commission of India.

I suppose the only way I'll find out is when I apply

So my interpretation of that letter means its still a 6 month visa, but they can give you a 3 month visa if and when it suits them and the rules can be changed at any time. What a terrible way to treat people. :duh

Moles, is spot on there is something that draws you to Goa. Personally I wish the feeling would go away :rofl and I can start going some other places because tourists arent being treated nice with all this visa saga.

I agree with you Dave - might not go next year - sad really - despite the negatives - there's so many nice things about the place.

Goa - it's hot - it's cheap - we meet other Brits here that's why we have a nice time with so have a good social life - that is basically why we are all here. e.g. Tuesday Sportsman Quiz - Wednesday night HT meetings - TA with bluesmania when we all get together on Friday in Rabbie Burns . We are not Brit enclaives but everyone meeting together to have a good time whether UK, Russina, Indian whaterver. We go to Indian restaurants - Anand Sagar is Calangute Veggie Favourite
Anand before Tuesday Sportsman quiz is very busy ;) if you think you can beat dragon07 come along and try :tup

At last our passport have been returned complete with yet another stamp on the visa!!!! but at least we can now concentrate on other things rather then if we would loose our holiday :cry

I also received a letter yesterday from First Choice pointing out the new re-entry situation.........we go 22nd Feb thankfully due to information on here and TA forum we managed to get sorted......can now start counting sleeps instead of how many days the Consulate had our passport ;)

Thanks everyone for help :tup

Yes that is good news I think - your passport should be handed over to the courier in the next couple of days - hopefully you should have it back by the end of the week.
