Although ithe exact date has yet to be decided Bulgaria will meet England (in Sofia ?) and no doubt this will be of great interest to many of the local football fans in both Sunny B and GS. They do love their footy do the Bulgarians. It wont be until at least Sept/Oct at the earliest though....could even be into next year 2011.
However, the FIFA World Cup from South Africa is also being shown 'live' this coming summer (June 11th onwards for about a month) many of the local bars will be keen to attract football fans from all over the main resorts to increase their business. This was evident in during June/July 2006 when we were in GS and stayed at The Bonita. A great party atmosphere was clearly being had by all. Not all the bars showed the games so those wanting to avoid all the excitement were equally well catered for...I saw and heard of no problems at the time we were there, and although there was one major incident which was finally concluded late last year, the vast majority of tourists had a great time and our Bulgarian hosts did us proud.
Where ever you go home or abroad this summer the World Cup will be shown in some bar or another so just take care and avoid the obvious....
Boyko Borisov, the Bulgarian P.M. (who watched the Chelsea-A r s enal game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday), seems to think that Bulgaria will be winning Group G, with England & Wales fighting it out for second place - http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=112909.
(The board's "expletive filter" doesn't seem to like the name of Chelsea's opponents, which is why I've had to space it!)
Was just to mention Monaco, that Wales are in the same group as Bulgaria too.
Apologies if this aint really a holiday related thred, but, with this summers WC and forthcoming Euro qualifiers our Bulgarian hosts will always make sure those who want to watch can and those who dont have plenty of alternatives. The extra spice comes from the make-up of the Euro Group.
regards, Jim.
Dont think theres a better place, other than in the stadium, to watch these events.
Its not like being in Spain or Greece, where they hype up the England games 24/7.
In Sunny Beach it is a real international affair.
First time we went in 2006, I was in Tonys Karaoke during/ after a couple of England games.
I was the daft Glaswegian murdering Proclaimers songs in between repeats of Three Lions and Vindaloo..................
The singing was rotten, but they were great nights.
