Yes, I have seen photos of Gumbet taken last week and there is still a lot of work to be done. The demolition rubble has gone and they are putting in new drains at the moment. A lot of places look empyt but hopefully they will get cracking with the work and finish in time. That is pretty typical of Turks actually, they always leave everything to the last minute! They do work very hard and fast though so maybe it will be done, we will have to wait and see, after all they still have 10 weeks to go so plenty of time :rofl

You will have to let us know when you hear anything else Jakki.

The word from Marmaris is the building work is coming along fast. My friend went down to beachfront last week and took some photos for me and it is really starting to take shape. There are still some unconfirmed rumours if the bars will change names and what not but either way long beach is on its way back. Also, music situation has be extended to the normal 1am outside and 4am inside on long beach. :tup

When I hear more I will keep you posted

....

Salt N Peppa rebuilding on long beach
Captains bar rebuilding on long beach but may change name
Beach club have taken over Joy (next to mango) on bar street and are leaving long beach but reopening in bar street. Manager says they will charge long beach prices down there but we will wait and see that one lol!
Cream on long beach is extending

I also had word from my friend in Marmaris and sent her along to have a look at the weekend what is happening down on long beach and she came back with this " YES THEY HAVE STARTED BUILDING AGAIN ONLY 3 NEW PLACES BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE ARE YET ". So yeah there is building work going on but not all the way along the beach. But hey its still Marmaris and I still love it.

I posted a few months ago with where the beach work in Side was - and have now found out this is completly wrong. I'm so sorry I posted incorrect info, I trusted the woman who told me this (she lives out there most of the year), but it seems she was trying not to put off people from going to Side....I'm not particularly happy about that but can't really do anything about it.

Anyway, I have been sent picture which show the building work around the Arum, Sentido Perissa, Hemera etc...these were taken this week. If anyone would like to see them, then they could possibly (if the mods allow this) PM me their email adress and I will forward them. And if thats not allowed - Sorry for suggesting it.

And I apologise once again for telling you all the info I had been given...I'm quite embarrassed it was so wrong :whoops

Just heard from friends on holiday in Side....work on the beach is very nearly finished and it looks great. OH is happy about it as he always goes for a run early in the mornings, but doesn't like sand...now they've built him his own running track :rofl

Have heard that the Sunrise Queen (next door to Arum, towards Hemera) is having another wing built. Apparently this is directly next to the Arum (small track road separating the two hotels) and Thomas Cook have refunded a family who were meant to be at the Arum at the moment as they could not guarentee they would not be disrupted. However, Thomas Cook are not informing people of the building work, and are in fact still offering July holidays to the Sunrise Queen. I have also heard that this work is now only internal works, and all external works have finished. (would just like to make clear that this is just information I have heard...so sorry if I have been misinformed again).

Apparently, Thomas Cook customers booked to go to Gumbet in the next few weeks have been upgraded to the WOW Bodrum from hotels more in the centre.

Off to Gumbet on 20th May.

How are things looking there and are we likely to have much disruption.

Staying in Jasmine Beach Apts, but do like the odd night out in some of the livelier places as well as a quiet drink. It's been a few years since we were last in Gumbet!!

Gumbet is looking a lot better in the last few days and they are planning to have all the major works finished by 1st May. Jasmine Beach isn't anywhere near the works so you will be fine there anyway.

When did you last visit Gumbet?

An earthquake did'nt put me off going back (on my first visit to Marmaris) building work won't bother me either!

Kedi,

Prob about 5/6 years ago since we were last in Gumbet. Stayed in the Mels that time. Always anticipate some changes, but is nice to know we won't be affected by the rebuild too much.
