Hi,
My girlfriend (22) and I (24) are looking to go to Mellieha in July this year. Is this a suitable place for us?
I've been looking for accommodation and all that seems to come up is huge hotels - we normally prefer smaller places and try to avoid the package hotels.
Can anyone recommend a place to stay in mellieha for a young couple that is close to the beach and bars/restuarants? Any good apartments?
We plan to hire a car and would prefer self catering or b+b.
Any advice appreciated!
From what we could see there are a few hotels along the beach/coast road but very little else. It seems the majority of shops, restaurants and bars are up in the town. The road to the town is very long, twisty and steep so plan a taxi or bus ride up and walk back down
As we were walking away from the beachfront we were questioning between the 4 of us if there was anything else except what was up the road.... A couple heading towards us started laughing and said "nope, everything is up the hill" - so I would plan carefully...
You can get a taxi into buggiba theres plenty going on there clubs, bars untilll early hours.
We like Mellieha because it is like going home friendly and a nice beach.
We are 45 and 55 ,hope this helps..x
This is my first posting.
If you are looking at self catering suggest that you look at Luna apartments, now called I believe Luna Holiday Complex.
I have discovered that one can rent other peoples timeshare, one fantastic one is at the Radisson at Golden Bay, a five star hotel, which also has timeshares. You can rent a unit that is self contained, most have a kitchenette (i.e. microwave, hob, sink, fridge) others have a full blown kitchen with a dishwasher. Eating at the hotel is expensive, however if you rent a unit and do self catering then it can be cheap and at the same time stay at a fantastic hotel, which is located right by a sandy beach. A car is essential as this hotel is remote.
This hotel is not the normal package holiday place and is mainly timeshare.
I love Malta, having been there about 25 times, my daughter is 13 and in August it will be her 11th time.

Welcome macl1uk .. unfortunately I have had to edit your post as we are unable to allow recommendations, complaints, or other discussion about specific timeshare companies.
We have lived in Cyprus a little over 6yrs and I'm only just in my 50's with my husband being a few years younger.
Parents bought a timeshare a couple of years ago and we've found that we can get a fairly cheap break from Cyprus to Malta each February when my parents holiday there for a month.
Their timeshare is in Qawra - just out of Bugibba and find there is plenty of stuff, bars, restaurants etc going on there. However, we do prefer Sliema, St Juliens or Paceville for a bit more "going on"
I may be 50 but I prefer to listen to BFBS Radio 1 (equivalent of Radio 1 in UK) whereas my other half is a Radio 2 kind of person. There's nightlife and shops + traffic!
All depends what you're looking for but I honestly think if you're a young 20 something - you could be seeking a razorblade if you choose the wrong resort. A week, you could probably manage - but 2 weeks in Mellieha could be pushing it.
We only go because it gives us the chance to get to spend time with my parents. If we went in the summer months, we would choose a different resort but really do like Valetta (just across the bay from Sliema) although, we did love Gozo on our last visit. Ok if you want a quiet laid back holiday...
