Just a word of warning to prevent a problem which I have just had.

I booked 5 return tickets to Tenerife through eBookers.com, for a Monarch flight. I have received emailed confirmation from Monarch which mentions that none of my tickets include hold baggage - so no suitcases! I can apparantly pay for hold baggage but it is going to be £20 per passenger/bag which increases my flight cost by £100.00.

I called Monarch, they blamed eBookers for not informing me. I called eBookers and they told me baggage up to 20kg was included - their T&Cs suggest you do get baggage and the weight limit is variable but usually 20kg - the girl at eBookers went backwards and forwards and eventually come back to me with a clause in their T&Cs (not under the baggage paragraph) to say low cost airlines may or may not charge extra for baggage - which tells the customer nothing. I feel if a flight they sell excludes baggage then it should say so.

It was bad enough that they also charged me £24.00 booking fee on my flight, so the final amount I have to pay for the flights is a lot more than they advertised it for.

Monarch said they couldn't help, as it is down to eBookers. And eBookers just were no help - I tried to see if they could include baggage for us as a goodwill measure as I feel they mis-sold the flight to me. I have pensioners in my party who have already seen the flight (and therefore the cost of their holiday) increase due to booking fee - now I have to see if they can afford to pay for their luggage too!

Just to warn people, in case they have the same problem - would have been easier and cheaper for me to book directly on Monarch's website - I would not use eBookers again.

Regards

It always pays to price up your flights with different providers, initially on their web site Monarch will not tell you of baggage costs but you will soon find out as you progress your booking, It would of course be nice if no frills airlines and others gave you the price as it is but they do not so we have to go through the process and then decide at the paying stage whether the final price is acceptable or not. You would not have had to pay a booking fee if you had booked direct with Monarch but perhaps as in my case see the price I have paid come down and go up. It really does pay to check all the avenues but booking direct with airlines is usually best, well in my experience anyway.

Dave :( hope I don't sound too grumpy because some one will soon be on here to tell me that my thoughts are of no help at all haha.

I have seen what i think is a decent price for a package holiday to Tenerife for nexy may half term but in the past i have saved quite a bit of cash by going diy. We have never been to Tenerife before so i have no idea of the flight prices so if anybody could give me a rough idea based on past experience flying from northern airports or glasgow it would help me decide whether to book now or hang on till the budget airlines release their prices. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you have booked? if you have booked a package holiday, then the flight should be included.
If not, then book the flight asap. The nearer the departure date, the dearer the flight. Try Ryanair, Thomson Fly or Monarch. You will find night flights cheaper. Further cost - transfers from airport to Playa De Las Americas, for taxi is between 20/30 euros for party of four. School term holidays, the flights are much more expensive. Hope this assists.
I think I have misread your post, sorry. To assist. Get flight and accom. prices, then check against package price. Travel Republic, Low Cost beds are good sites for prices accom. Flights, go direct to airline.

Can anyone advise on the best flight to Tenerife from Newcastle on 23rd Oct- 30th Oct. the cheapest I have found is Thomas Cook at £884 for 2 people. I think this is very expensive they have put the price up of course because of the the half term holiday. If any one knows of a better deal I would be grateful for your comments.

thanks

I think it's unlikely that you'll get anything much cheaper this late in the day for those dates - as you say, it is the main half-term holiday and remaining seats are likely to be few and far between. Depending on where you live in relation to Newcastle it might be worth looking at what's available from Scotland as the half-term holiday will be over for most parts of Scotland by then. I say this because I live on the East coast of Scotland and during our school holidays up here, the saving in flying from Newcastle instead of Edinburgh or Aberdeen makes the drive down worthwhile and you might find it advantageous to take advantage of this in reverse.

Hi,
Try Ryanair, I live in the north east and usually use Newcastle. In May at half term we went to Tenerife and flew from Glasgow Prestwick with Ryanair it only cost us £450 for 3 of us, instead of £1,000 it was going to cost us from Newcastle. We travelled up and stayed in the premier inn the night before. The money we saved paid for our accomodation and some spending money. Also have a look on http://www.skyscanner.net.

Hi Craig ... it may vary depending on which airport you are travelling from, but a recent post in the Easyjet Q&As topic in our Airlines & Airports forum suggests Gatwick/Tenerife seats will be released for sale in April. You may pick up more info in the Easyjet and Ryanair topics in that forum.

Booked return flights for 2 to Tenerife South from Bristol airport with Ryanair for departure mid-May a couple of weeks ago and paid £203 total including a suitcase each. Flight times are good too. The equivalent flights with Thomson were £510 and Flythomascook £425 so a big saving over both of those.
